NUFC Transfer Rumours

To me, you’d want a DoF willing to adopt Howe’s style throughout the club, so that any successor will be in the ‘Howe mould’.

Agree. Each club develops an identity over time and ours giving the success is turning into what Howe is delivering. Hard pressing, runners, aggressive play.

He’s stamped his style successfully that should now be our identity for many years to come and DoF comes in that compliments that.

We can then moan in 2031 when some manager comes in playing tippy tappy bollocks that it’s not the Newcastle way.

I reckon £200k-£300k a week in wages is a bigger pull than us winning the carabao cup last season.

The wages and you don't even really have to play. Just sit in London making nearly a million pounds a month.

I just don't see how there's any excuse. We've literally done fuck all for the best part of 3 years and we seem to be as ill-prepared as it's possible to be.
Obviously we can't legislate for other clubs coming in for players, but why haven't we been sounding out their agents beforehand?

3 years?

I think the element that makes it concerning for me was Howe saying he wanted us to move fast. This has not been fast. The concern is compounded by the fact that Howe integrates players into the squad slower than almost any other manager so the longer it takes for us to sign players, the longer it will be before we see them / see them up to full speed

Depends if there's a disconnect between Howe and whoever is doing the transfer deals. We lost out on Pedro but that's as much because he wanted to go to Chelsea than any other reason. I'm not sure we can do much about situations like that if we are competing with the biggest spenders in the PL.

If we start getting a bit more creative in the transfer market and look further afield we could probably get 3-4 decent signings but they might not be PL hardened. Is everyone on the same page with that though?

No, we lose out Pedro because we ain’t willing to pay 55m+5m. That’s what concern me most - I don’t think that’s a crazy price.

“Without going into the individual situation here, we've tried to sign several players,” Howe admitted when asked about putting sole focus on signing one player in Guehi. “It's never been about one player. It can never be about one player, because as soon as you're in that position, then your negotiation strength is over.”

“So, no, we've tried for several targets, but it still has to be the right player though. And there isn't an unlimited number of players. It's not like you can, well, we'll just go on to the next one, the next one, the next one. Because then the quality dilutes and then you have to question whether you're doing the right thing for the long-term future of the club. "There isn't a bottomless pit of money. We're not able to spend that way. Everything that we do has a long-term consequence. So you've got to be very sure whatever you do is right for the long-term future and short-term future of the club.”

When asked what the ‘right player’ is for Newcastle, Howe added: “The right player is multi-factored, really.

“It's the right age, the right deal as in transfer fee, the right wages, then the right player to actually come into your squad, the right positional need.

“There's loads of things. If one of those things is not right, especially financially for us, it puts us in a difficult situation."

That’s what Howe said last summer and it’s very telling. Certainly explains why we get so hyper focused on certain players.

I see this stuff alot and I'm sure it's a simple slip and you meant 3 windows and not 3 years but i have seen it so often that it shows how easy things can start getting repeated as fact.

2 years ago we signed Tonali, Barnes, Tino, Hall and Minteh.

3 years ago we signed Isak, Botman, Pope and made Targett permanent.

So not fuck all and a large reason why we had to slow down and try and balance books the following windows.

We probably have, aye.

Our biggest issue is we can't compete on wages, which is magnified when dealing with established PL players and players wanted by the big six

It's entirely possible we have all sorts of things going on with European based players and there's plenty of time. If it turns out our shopping list was almost exclusively PL targets I'll be disappointed for the simple fact that it's strategically flawed.

2031? it's constant moaning on here 24/7!

Don't let facts interfere with the narrative!

And if you want to be pedantic you could actually say we ‘signed’ Hall 1 year ago, at least from a financial perspective.

Even if we were, we can't match Chelsea for wages. Even given we could match the wages, we have been told the player wanted to go to Chelsea. This is what is being reported, not that we couldn't afford the £55m+5m.

This is what I mean by a disconnect between Howe and the recruitment team. There might not be one, but you can easily imagine there might be.

Yeah, this is just Liam Kennedy putting a story out there for the sake of it. We're a Champions League club. We're aware that football is played in other countries.

Well the recruitment team is him, Nickson and his Brother so I'd hope not [emoji38]

Howe is part of the recruitment team, has been since he became manager.

Need to remember that even if someone in the press does have real info it is almost certainly delayed. Also, unless we're as incompetent as some on here want to believe, we are capable of multi-tasking. We aren't working on one thing at a time. Things are happening behind the scenes very differently than what we get to see.
