Hate to say it, but beginning to look like a one-trick pony.

Let me guess ......... did you say the same about Gordon, Bruno, Tonali etc.  Mr doom and gloom.  I have a close friend that thinks exactly like you.

Wouldn't sell for that.

Even though he doesn't start for us, he'd instantly give any PL side a good goals output. 35m minimum.

Hes highly rated by other fans, from my experience at least.

All players like him are though. Other fans notice the goals, not the other 89 mins of very little.

He's backup LW, though I'm always less than convinced when he starts for us vs when he comes on for us as a sub.

In a non-PSR world I'd happily have him assuming he's happy being the backup.

But he's one of few players who we could potentially move on for a decent fee. Might be one where both parties are happy because I think he starts for mid table teams.

And that's exactly it. Hes one of the few players we have who should be starting in the PL and will give us some serious wedge back.

He’ll be gone in the summer or maybe even a later Jan deal if it means we can get a RW in.

0% chance he leaves in January. (From the horses mouth)

As has been mentioned, he came off because midway through the first half he felt some discomfort in his quad. Just precautionary I think.

I know what you mean but who is going to stump up 35m for him in this climate ?

Fair comment. I can absolutely see him at somewhere like West Ham though.

Give the lad a chance please. I remember when Murphy was being pilloried and now look at him.

Theres sometimes a lot of SMB kicking about here.

He's had plenty of chances. The problem he's got us he's not as good as Anthony Gordon and can't play anywhere except on the left wing.

More than happy for him to stay as an impact sub but I can't see him or the financial hierarchy wanting that

Give him a chance where?

To be fair, nobody is saying he's shite. Actually it's a compliment that most of us see him as too good to be sitting on our bench, given our PSR constraints. Hes valuable.

That’s how I see it. Using any Barnes money for a RW upgrade could be transformative. Still don’t think anything will happen this month whilst fighting on three fronts.

Ha ha.......must admit I had a downer on Gordon at the beginning......but still have serious doubts about Barnes.

Didn't see the first half, so no comment on that, but when I saw the lineup, with no Bruno or Willock, I thought Barnes especially would suffer - we were halfway toothless, in terms of experienced creativity. Our best two lock picks were in defence.

I get that the kid can finish and stats look impressive, but this tends to be when he’s given acres to cut in on his right foot, if he’s up against a fast, physical full back he’s got no chance.

Just doesn’t cut it for me, fell over at Arsenal when through in the left channel, lacks pace, physically weak and lacks ability on the ball to be a top player.

I really don't wanna rule the kid out. I think he's of the level we are at so to speak with regards to the squad. He isn't good enough to keep an in form Gordon out, but he is enough to keep pressure on Gordon. If I were him and wanted to excel I be thinking what can I do on the right to cement a place tbh. But with how Murphy is currently playing, it'd be a tough ask. Folk won't like to admit it, but Murphy is up there with Gordon if not better this season, so far.

He has one perfect role for us, thats the last 20-30 minutes of a game when we are ahead or are happy with a draw. Should never be starting games, especially those we are expecting to win.

If thats enough to justify a £30m price tag is an open question. Maybe not considering our current squad. Probably better ways we could spend that money to improve the squad. Didnt sound like our reserve players out there today impressed alot.

He is presently a leader of our second string in terms of ability, for me.

Eh? His best utility is when we need a goal, not to hang onto a draw.

Dont think he has the ability to score lots of goals against teams with a low block.

Its not hanging on to a draw i meant, but that he can snatch a win if the other team is pressing for one themselves.

Not sure I agree with this. Give him half a yard he can score. Probably moreso than Gordon, dare I say it.

Gordon offers far more though in our general play.

He's got a good shot from outside the box. I think he's struggling atm as we're either shagged and hanging on, or are out of sight by the time he's on the pitch.
