MagCA Posted Tuesday at 22:42 Share Posted Tuesday at 22:42 Just now, KaKa said: Some key bits from the article ... Fenerbahce manager, José Mourinho, has had a bid for Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly rejected by the Premier League club. Mourinho is understood to have been the main driving force behind the interest in Kelly as he faced the player several times during his time as a manager with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. ------------------------------------------- Telegraph Sport understands that Newcastle were willing to listen to Fenerbahce’s proposal as Kelly is behind both Dan Burn and a fit again Sven Botman in the pecking order for the left-sided centre-back role, but the opening offer was considerably below their valuation of the player. As things stand, talks have not progressed and the Turkish club would have to significantly raise their offer for the 26-year-old if they are going to resume. Strange for their vice president or whatever to go public with the talks. Be surprised if this one happens.

The fact Mourinho is pushing for it might be significant. However their record signing is around £15 million. Not sure what we're asking for, but sounds like it might be more than that. 80 Posted Tuesday at 22:47 Share Posted Tuesday at 22:47 One of the stranger transfer stories to come up. Interesting that we don't appear to have totally dismissed the interest out of hand.
NSG Posted Tuesday at 22:50 Share Posted Tuesday at 22:50 If we can make a quick £15m or so out of him then we’d be daft to turn it down, especially if we can utilise it to bring in some more strength in depth at RCB.

Might be that the injuries have affected him significantly and he's not quite up to it anymore, for what was expected anyway.
Checko Posted Tuesday at 23:07 Share Posted Tuesday at 23:07 Think he'd probably be absolutely fine if he got a bit of a run of games. CB's so rarely get subbed you just don't get any game time unless you're the starter. If we sell him and make some money then fine, but that just leaves us with a ton of old centre backs, Botman aside.

I guess we'll see, but he seems well below his previous level, and hasn't showed the same sort of aggression. It's weird.

Armchair Pundit Posted Tuesday at 23:41 Share Posted Tuesday at 23:41 Well, if we got him for a free, I'd have seriously considered it, I just don't rate the guy.

The Prophet Posted Tuesday at 23:58 Share Posted Tuesday at 23:58 Bournemouth would have like been asking £25 million plus for him. His stock hasn't fallen that much. We need to become better at selling, but that doesn't mean we should let clubs take the piss out of us.
Shak Posted Wednesday at 00:03 Share Posted Wednesday at 00:03 Could a Turkish club afford his supposedly sky high wages? Pretty much everywhere I look seems to suggest he's on 100k p/w. I'd imagine he'll settle into being a solid squad player for us but if we could get a decent fee for him I'd be happy to get the quick PSR boost, get a pretty hefty contract off our books and wish him well to be honest. Even on a free, there wasn’t a great deal of clubs chasing him.
ExiledGeordie Posted Wednesday at 06:40 Share Posted Wednesday at 06:40 I think if they come in with an offer close to our valuation we might well sell. We’ve got Schar, Burn, Botman and Krafth who can come in. Lascelles isn’t far away and Targett can play left back.
Newcastle Fan Posted Wednesday at 06:41 Share Posted Wednesday at 06:41 He looks a championship footballer at best and it doesn't make much sense holding on to him now that we have a fit Targett and Botman.
Hanshithispantz Posted Wednesday at 07:37 Share Posted Wednesday at 07:37 He's our 3rd choice LCB and 3rd choice LB. It makes sense keeping him unless he's replaced. He hasn't settled in well but there's no reason to shit ourselves and sell him for under market value, leaving us needing another defender.
Tsunami Posted Wednesday at 07:38 Share Posted Wednesday at 07:38 He’s got everything you need to be a good CB. With a run of games and coaching/ tactical awareness I think he’d be more than useful. He doesn’t look quite at home imo. Anything under 15M would be poor business other than getting a wage off the books. Unless we can replace like for like with Tomori or close to like for like. Crimson Cardigan Posted Wednesday at 07:55 Share Posted Wednesday at 07:55 Post Chris Wood you’d think people might be a little more careful about declaring players “championship level at best”.

How? did you see anything from him to suggest that he can hold a place in the team and not make us look weaker if our main players get injured?
