Might be in the minority but buying Trafford isn't the answer for me, if we want to progress is buying another Burnley keeper the way forward. Personally think we can get caught up in buying the easy 'English' option.

Team who wants Europe again so we not need to be more ambitious?

Who he plays for is irrelevant. His ability is what we need to focus on. Should we not have signed Tino because he was at Southampton?

Don't watch Burnley but how much is down to the defence in that he hasn't conceded since Christmas? I know he saved them two pens against the mackems.

It depends, if it's someone I like the sound of it's down to him, if not it's the defence.

Obviously a lot is down to team structure and how well they’ve defended. But to only concede 9 goals in 34 games shows any weaknesses he does have clearly aren’t as significant as some would make out.

My worry is that Burnley park the bus massively in an awful league so is that stat more on that or him who knows? meslier only conceded 20 which is still not a lot but he's awful.

Hoping if we go for him he's a top keeper but we don't seem to do much business outside of England as of late.

Sure I read on here that he's only faced about 20 (?) shots or something similarly tiny??

Would suggest the defence in front of him are the key.

FWIW I trust the process 😂😂

Just checked and he basically 65 saves from 65 shots

Goals prevented is 10.5, 2nd behind the Stoke keeper but probably inflated due to the 2 goals against the Mackems

Impressive as that is, should it not be 65 saves from 74 shots, seeing as 9 of them went in :mackems:

Every time we criticise a signing or a potential signing - Howe and co makes us eat humble pie. Obviously there being 1 or 2 exceptions. If they want Trafford - so be it.

Cant even think there have been 1 or 2 exceptions TBH.

fbref do Champo stats. They reckon Trafford has saved 10 goals based on the quality of the shots he's faced. The stat is called "post-shot xG - GA".

https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/Championship-Stats#all_leaders

While this stat is based on actual shots, actual shots in the Prem will be hit with more venom. Bournemouth's keepers, Kepa and the backup, lead this stat in the Prem.

Average distance from goal from shots taken against Burnley is 17.1, which is fairly average.

What is also important to note is how well he could be organising that defence, something you would only know by being there. It may be a case that the defence and team as a whole is incredibly well drilled but what if that is down to the shouts coming from behind them. Teams tend to be much more solid when the defenders know they can rely on the goalkeeper and there is tremendous communication. This could be a key asset that isnt shown in any stats

Burnley are incredibly dour and defensive.

All the more reason to consult stats rather than watch their matches:banana:

A goalie who does let anything in will also make the games even more dour.
