Is he having to make any saves of note?

Burnley keeper James Trafford has only faced 21 shots on target in achieving his 11 successive clean sheets - including saving two penalties from Sunderland's Wilson Isidor.

No team has had more than three shots on target against them in any of those games.

Think that Hermanssen (?) at Leicester is better and probably cheaper.

Will watch him more closely next time as so far he’s never caught my eye.

Whats his strengths?

Always thought he was a more than decent shot stopper and unlike any NUFC keeper in my lifetime looks pretty comfortable with the ball at his feet. Only 24 as well so plenty of time to get better still.

He looks about 5ft 10”. So all of his saves look impressive and at full stretch. He gets a lot of practice behind that shit defence! Poor on crosses.

He got injured against us in the first half and then had a good while out. Not been back long, I don’t think? Before that, he showed up well on that xG against stat The Other 14 use…..

xG, again

A keeper with feet seems to have been a priority for about 18 months now and rightly so, it’s an easy move to upgrade the output of the side by a good percentage. Ticks all those boxes we like to, young and English being two big ones.

Source?

Hope

“James Trafford’s proposed move to Newcastle is now expected to be completed without any hitches this summer.

The Burnley goalkeeper had agreed to join last August only for the deal not to happen, much to the surprise and disappointment of some of those involved.

However, sources have expressed extreme confidence this week of the transfer going through at the end of this season, with Trafford still set on St James’ Park.

The 22-year-old is in the midst of an astonishing 11-match run without conceding a goal, moving beyond 1,000 minutes since he was last beaten. That run included a pair of penalty saves during a goalless draw with Sunderland last month, ingratiating himself with Newcastle supporters who are aware of their club’s interest in the Cumbrian.

One complicating factor that had been mentioned was Manchester City’s buy-back clause. They sold the player to Burnley for £19million two years ago and it is thought a fee in excess of £40m was included as an option to re-sign him.

But sources have played down the possibility of that being an issue and say all roads still lead to Tyneside, regardless of whether Burnley win promotion.”

“The fee discussed last summer was £16m and, while it will take more than that this time around, Trafford has only two years to run on his contract.

Newcastle scouts have continued to watch the England Under-21 star extensively this season and his ball-playing attributes are seen as key to the team’s long-term evolution.“

Probably didn’t sign because of our PSR problems. So, we had to sell 2 players and will now have to spend a lot more than the 16m Trafford would have cost at that point.

Glad those rules are still protecting us.
