Kid Icarus
Totally understand if the criticism is that we should have signed someone more ready-made or that you don't agree with Howe's bedding in methods. Daft if you're asking why he's not getting a sniff though, you should know Howe by now.

But it just seems like such an odd signing if the lad isn’t even third choice - they might as well have sent him out on loan until January if that’s the case
AyeDubbleYoo
This whole debate is so tiring like. Happened with nearly everyone we’ve signed and they’ve all turned out to be good
WilliamPS
It is a bit different with a striker though. Defenders and midfielders need to know their role in the system, but in the last 10 minutes of a game they were dominating you aren’t looking for the striker to do a lot tactically when the team is out of possession, you just want him to get on the end of something. He missed the header as well from Murphy's cross where instead of going for goal he tried to head it back to a marked Joelinton. That's probably why it's not on page 2. rebelrouser
Wasn't he poor to average for Sheffield United? Not sure why we think he is a quality starting striker just because we spent a small amount on him.

My brother in law is a Sheff Utd fan and he said that he’s got a lot of promise but was badly developed at Sheff Utd. He’ll look quality for us by the start of next season, shame it’s not sooner but whatever, this is where we are now

It turned out when they played they were clearly not good enough/ready/match fit and that’s why they hadn’t been getting any starts. I think anyone will struggle to impress if all they get is one game here and there, and if they don't perform in that one game they go straight back to the bench. Last year Hall had to outperform Burn by a mile to get another chance the next game. You can't find any form or rhythm that way. What we're seeing with Hall now is that he is finally getting the run of games that me and others have been hoping for, and surprise surprise, he gets gradually better for each game that he is starting consecutively. This has allways been a thing in football. Edited October 6 by Erikse
Erikse
I was positive about this signing because I thought that he would be the young third choice striker that we really needed this season. Seems like he is not the third choice though, but rather one for the future, so it seems like we did go into another season too dependant on Isak and Wilson to stay fit.. Yeah this is the problem, I'm sure he has some genuine promise, but we are still left with the same problem as last season which eventually cost us Europe. True but here we have a guy proven to be able to play quite well in CF along with a problem with how to accommodate our two forwards who are both primarily LW options. Howe is always going to choose that option ahead of something he's not comfortable with doing.

Lament the fact we didn't sign a striker ready for first time football if you want (and want to pretend we're able to shift Wilson and/or PSR doesn't exist), but Osula has very little to do with it. No issue with that. Just similar to Hall for me (who thankfully got a break later in season) where at their young age, you need to be either getting some game time for first team or getting consistent minutes in U23/loan depending on where your level is. Otherwise, the development stalls. Thankfully he’ll get minutes during each international break, but I think there’s a valid argument for sending him out on loan in January for 2nd half of season so he can hone his game at Championship level. Going to be 22 next season.
Abacus
Gordon has more of a record as a striker with England, so picking him up front to start vs Everton made most sense. As the game went on, I think at 0-0 away, holding out for the point was probably the right thing to do rather than gambling on Osula for ten minutes. But that's even assuming we hadn't used all our subs up in the first place making that whole argument irrelevant. I do think he'll get minutes as the season goes on, thought he's looked good in flashes pre-season (for what that's worth) and in his movement against Wimbledon, where the whole team created very little due to the way they'd set up. Tiotes Witch Doctor
Really liked the look of him every time he's come on, looks strong and quick and has very quick feet, had he been played in when he should have been he may well have got off the mark tonight. Lush Vlad
He has something. First thing he did was win a big header and batter one of their CB’s, giving a foul away in the process. Back to goal he was solid and he made 2-3 unselfish runs to open up space for the man on the ball. Unlucky with hitting the post and all. Promising.
