Not sure I want him that badly. £40m territory fair enough, but the £60m/£70m stuff seems wasteful given PSR.  We've got to fill a number of positions to fill and Botman returning. I'm hoping our scouting has some cheaper targets to make our money go further.

I can’t see them selling at all, given their position in the table.

Agreed but depends on their financials he will only have 18months left come Jan and could be a sacrifice to "freshen" up the squad further.

Still think his value has plummeted on the back of contract length and league performances maybe that reported opening offer of 40m may be tempting enough if they can make the money work for a couple more players.

Alternatively if we were messed about over the summer over switching goal posts etc then we may not touch the deal at all. Just imagine the narrative of spending 2 weeks of the Jan window to try and get him again and not get him and go on to try and cope with that right hand side CB shortfall for the rest of the season.

He won’t cost 60-70 now, they missed that window.

The best they can get now IMO would be £40m-£50m mark based on incentives. Outside that, there's little appetite for a club to push it beyond that when he will clearly leave for a free, and he's not some unattainable talent that means a club pays over the odds to get him before he can speak to more clubs.

Our offers were insane in summer, and Palace stupidly turned them down. Proper short termism from Parish which will cost Palace in the long run.

It's really quite unbelievable how badly this turned out for Palace and Parish, and immensely satisfying.

We are being associated with a number of interesting names out there at CB. I really don't think we'll be back in for him and that would be great.

With how badly Palace have performed, I'm not even sure who goes for him next summer. Might just end up there till 2026 and move on a free.

Would there be a clause in his contract stating,” If we get relegated i can leave on a free”?

I very much doubt it.

Due to the contract and sheer spite I would go in offering £25m with the intention of going to £30m max.

Not overly fussed about getting him in the summer either. I'd hazard a guess that one of the cartel would come in and trump us on wages/sign on fee at that point. Probably why we were prepared to pay a bit more this summer to avoid that.

EDIT: Had it in my head he was out of contract '25 and not '26 so I guess there's still a chance in the summer but at a lower fee there'd probably still be more competition.

I'd imagine we're the only ones in any position to offer them good money for him in January with other clubs doing their main business in the summer window and no one in desperate need for a cb at the top end, which means, any offer we put on the table should be considered very carefully as the next opportunity will be the summer with 12 months to run. Then there's the added threat they could be in the championship by then as well.

I'm not arsed either way. If a deal can be done quickly, before the window even opens and at a reasonable price, then I'm still a fan. Anything other than that and there will be cheaper alternatives in Europe we can go for, with money to spare in other positions.
