Hmmm…I was kinda hoping for more imaginative targets to maximise our budget plus I don’t rate him that highly as from the little I’ve seen he’s a pace merchant with poor decision making.

Yea he is, for them. I agree that they aren’t as good as us. That’s by what Nuno has done is quite impressive. Their players overall aren’t close to ours.

So every time we’re linked (not even every time we buy) with one of these “overpriced” PL players, people would do well to remember, these are the type of players (hopefully allied with so cheaper finds from elsewhere) that are proven to get you where you want to be.

 

Their model is to buy before they prove themselves and sell to bigger teams once they have - for inflated fees, thus being in a constant cycle of rebuilding.

 

Their aim is not to build sustainable elite success but a sustainable business, which is why elite clubs can't use it as they're after instant success and can't offer the same platform and conditions to develop. 

 

Ironically, Brighton use the exact same model as the European clubs; buying relatively unknown and selling for inflated fees (relative to their league) to bigger clubs who want proven quality.

 

The key difference between Brighton and those clubs (like Lyon) is with a PL proven moniker they can add another £20-30m to their price, where as in Europe you can buy the player of exact same quality for that amount alone.

so in those games where it’s just not working, we can bring a different player on to try the same thing.

I’d say 4 key signings, Elanga being one of them. At the very least after that we need a CB and some quality backup for Isak. I think we can make do with Pope for another season. We also need CM but agree that will happen if Willock or Longstaff go.
