I'm just confused by his pace. Stats circulate that he'll have one of the fastest speeds in whatever competition. He's clearly fast. But it doesn't seem to matter who we're playing -- he rarely wins a foot race with the fullback. Multiple times I thought he'd beat Elvin Jafarquliyev and his 71 pace on FIFA to the ball and he just doesn't do it.

I thought that more than anything we bought blistering pace and I'm genuinely confused at what I'm watching.

He did it against Barcelona, but he was in wide open space with only one man to beat. He's not getting that space in most PL games, and although I missed a lot of the first half, it looked like he wasn't getting much space today either.

For fun?

There’s people on here and in the ground who have decided they don’t rate him and want him to fail and take great pleasure in pointing out every little error he makes.

Eddie even had to specifically call out the behaviour of the negative twats in a presser.

Murphy’s got a pass completion rate of 74% and Elanga’s is 81% ya galoot.

I guess the 2/3 in 10 misplaced passes are the ones that stand out ???

I think he was poor tonight, thats all.

He wasn’t any good but I don’t think he was poor. For all Barnes’ huffing and puffing he didn’t do anything productive either.

Thought Trips was a bit all over the place which may have distracted Elanga a bit.

Also don’t get some of the responses here. People complain that some posters only pop and complain when we lose. We won and some people have pointed out Elenga didn’t threaten much against what is probably the worst defence we'll play against all season. They get shouted down.

So, if he’s not had a good game you can’t say if we lose and you can’t say if we’ve won.

We had a fantastic result. I’m ecstatic with it. Fair to say Elanga’s contribution to that were minimal.

Tough to really judge him last night. Often in games, one flank becomes the dominant and that was very much true last night. Barnes and Hall were having a field day and Gordon, Willock and Woltemarde all seemed to be predominately more left of centre than right, meaning there was often an overload on the left. This meant the ball often went through the centre/left rather than the right, can't really blame Elanga for that.

His ball in for Burn's chance was inch-perfect and BDB really should've scored. Otherwise he tracked back well enough apart from two minutes in the second half when he was poor twice on the give and go. Outside of that he did fine and whilst not pulling up trees, did his work.

Commenting that he didn't threaten much, is hardly the same as:

"Fucking terrible"

"Looked like he should be playing for Qarabag"

"Can't control a ball"

"Was wearing calipers"

The difference is he has double figures in goals for us. Got some goodwill in the tank.

Sometimes wonder if the fans would love Elanga if he just knocked the ball and ran every time he got it, but Eddie would be absolutely raging at him because 99% of the time it’s the wrong decision.

Those sort of wingers were dying out by the time Gillespie was doing it.

Oddly enough, I've seen some really smart one touch passing from him, and he does make really incisive little passes forwards at times. I can see the glimmer of the player in there that Howe must have seen, but the poor first touches seem to register more than the good ones for the majority.

I still wonder if it's just small club syndrome and he's just not confident enough to transfer his skills to the biggest stage. I also still hope Howe is the man who can bring that out of him.

I didn't see anyone that needed digging out for putting in a bad performance last night.

But watching matches, there are always a few fans that massively focus on a particular player that they decide they don't rate and then go on to bore everyone else about it.

So every time they touch the ball afterwards it's "See! They're rubbish! They should have done X, Y or Z!".

It's just dull, and here I speak as someone who has fallen into that trap myself in the past about Shelvey, even when he did OK.
