Eddie will coach him up to the point that he will be a decent contributor but it does feel a bit like the battle is to make him a serviceable player, which given how desperate we were for a quality RW and the money we spent is very disappointing. He looks like a promising youth player, not someone we spent years looking at and bought to be our first choice RW.

It’s his first touch and ball control in tight spaces that has been the most disappointing thing, for me. Everything looks like it’s a massive struggle to just get and keep the ball under control. Feel like if he looked better in that regard and it was just the decision making that wasn't clicking for him I’d be less worried but again he just looks like he needs more time on the ball than he is ever going to get at this level.

It’s why I don’t feel great criticising the lad - I don’t think it’s an attitude problem and he isn’t hiding in any way.  What you’ve said is spot-on - he needs far more time than he’s going to get; and needs several touches to get the ball under control, by which time any opportunity is gone.

Ramsey was pretty much always the same for me - a solid PL player who isn’t a marked step up from Willock.  He’s not a terrible signing, just not necessarily the most economic use of the resources available relative to his talent.  He’s been perfectly fine rather than shite.

Wissa on the other hand just looks like a terrible signing - and he’s already a failure, given the inflated price tag was for immediate results, not on the premise that at some point he’d start showing something.

Every signing is already a failure until they're not I guess. Woltemade was my biggest worry - really like him, desperately want him to succeed but didn't see how it could ever work - and even he makes more sense now. I'm really confident Eddie will get it right

I think Wissa is a different case to the other summer signings in terms of profile and age - I don’t think there is a player there for Howe to sculpt, he was more of a ‘guaranteed’ PL-level performer signed for big money despite his age - a premium was paid for him to hit the ground running.  With Elanga and Woltemade there’s a stronger case that Howe can work with them and improve them - as well as figure out a way to incorporate them into the side.

On a forum?  Sure.  I’m not onboard with shouting shite at players at the match nor abusing them on social media.  But what’s the point of a forum discussing players if we have to pretend that poor performances are good ones?

That wasn't a direct response to you for the record, unfortunate timing.

I have absolutely no issue with discussing Elanga's ability, or the lack of it.

My personal thoughts are that he's been incredibly frustrating, but I can see why Eddie wanted him. At times he's looked electric, particularly early on in the season, but he's clearly a confidence player who's struggled for stretches.

However, there's been plenty of performances this season where he's looked good without getting returns, or been no worse than the rest of a disjointed attack, but received pelters when others have been given a free pass.

There's been obvious signs of improvement of late, but as soon as he puts a foot wrong we're on him (see Qarabag). On the other hand, Ramsey, who some were equally as determined to write off, strings together multiple excellent performances and it gets much less coverage.

We're just an incredibly toxic fanbase.

I spent 90 minutes sitting next to a Citeh fan old enough to have seen the league one days, who spent the entire game screaming at O’Reilly for being shite.

we aren’t that bad…. Yet

Looked desperate to stay on. Noticeably blanked by Tripps when asking for the ball a few times.

Trippier played some great passes to him and was constantly in his ear telling him what to do

Good good. I'm not even saying it's a bad thing Trippier didn't play him in every time. I think if he makes the right runs, he'll get the ball.

Lad is struggling big time, needs to keep getting his chances in the team. Ideal game midweek for him, he owes a huge performance to himself and us after the backing he got in the last home game. He’s got the ability and the backing with everyone wanting him to do well, all down the him now though, possibly starting too many games and not improving enough to push Murphy out the team who at times is as bad if not worse.

Thats because others have plenty of goodwill in the tank.

Possibly seen one of the goals of his career whist at Forest against Man Utd. Other than his pace that’s all he offered. Terrified Tony on the ball.

Murphy just has the sense to play the ball forward quickly or cross it first time whenever he has any little space to do so, but in reality he's so poor man.

If Elanga would just adopt the same approach for the time being, especially as he gets into great positions so often with his speed and runs in behind, he'd be so much better. But he's not been told to do so, or hasn't realised this for himself, which is just so incredibly disappointing.

Murphy is shite as well. We've just made a massive mistake with Elanga. If he cost £25m it would have been forgiveable, but over £50m for someone who's first touch depends on what side of the bed he woke up on?

I’m not his biggest fan and it was shit business in a one horse race what we paid.

However, not his worst game last night considering the opposition and thought he was a threat with his pace. Murphy was shit when he came on and offered fuck all threat in comparison.

The right side is a massive problem, we probably need to sacrifice Murphy in the summer and get a younger player in to provide competition.

He's been just as bad as the stats suggest and I get supporting your players and what not but he doesn't half make it difficult on himself. I have no faith he can turn it around either - looks absolutely terrified of the ball most of the time.

Fair point. Different asks to NFFC mind so hopefully he'll be Howe'd soon enough.

What do we really expect Howe to do with him? I feel like given his skillset it’s wishful thinking.

He turned Joelinton into a powerhouse midfielder who still lacks top level passing, technical ability and end product. You can’t do that with a winger.
