Pope should have saved the second goal.

Yeah, if he's set properly then he probably kicks it away with his right peg or just falls on it. If any one of 4 players before that does their job properly he doesn't have a save to make.

Can see his point. We tend to really up it for the bigger sides and then play like a bunch of limp dicks against the rest of the league when we're favourites.

Same. Genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if we lost on Saturday and beat Liverpool after a great performance.

We could have been 2-1 up at HT with a bit of luck and some better finishing. Thought we did enough to at least be level but it just wouldn’t drop for us. First 5 mins of the second half were promising. Both goals were piss poor on our part, just lack of fundamentals, really disappointing. The less said about the final half an hour, the better, it was desperate. Absolutely no idea what the plan was, and I don’t think the players knew either.

How many times can we say this though? I mean I still think it's true hahaha.

Poor finishing has costs us for nearly two years. Definitely the most frustrating game. First half we were the better team and should have been winning. Second half we had more chances but gave up a little. I'm going to have nightmares about the amount of time we turned and passed back to the defence.

Just one of those days but another missed chance to get closer to where we want to be, instead looking like a team closer to missing out on Europe again.

After the 1st goal we just lost our way. Could have played another 3hrs and we wouldn't have scored. Thought we missed Burn, Lewis kept heading the ball away giving possession to West Ham when he had time to take a touch.

Couldn't agree more and I really wish this was the first thing everyone would jump to on nights like this. It doesn't absolve anyone of an isolated poor performance, but the bigger picture is that this season looks every bit like the institutional anti-competitiveness finally striking. We were still riding a post-takeover wave even last season; this summer we were always going to need a boost, but it wasn't forthcoming. Criticise the Guehi chase if you like but there's no way we only sign Kelly/Osula if PSR isn't so stringent.

I agree but West Ham have been shocking this season and yet we didn't have a shot on target.  The players on that pitch were good enough to win this game. But we could barely string a few passes together.  It was crying out for more balls over their back line- much like for Isaks off side goal but it just never came.

It’s weird how a load of people just fuck off downstairs when there is a significant break in play.  21 minutes tonight.

It’s like half the ground have got ADHD.

Was the same 20-25 years ago. Nouts changed!

Relative to West Ham there's nothing in it

Just to add to that, they spent 133million this summer

more than we've spent in 2years this January

That second half was a disgrace. First half we were unlucky, some nice stuff played at times

Game could still be going on and we wouldn’t have scored.

Jacob Murphy being a progressional footballer is astounding, let alone part of the “leadership group” (which seems to have more members than this forum at this point)

Other than 1st 15 mins we were poor in the 1st half. Just took the wind out of us after they scored. 2nd half was just awful.

They sold a player for £100 million

Didn't say they hadn't.

And in case were being pedantic they've spent £133m more than us this year and about £150m net more than us this year. It entitles them to competitiveness I'd say. As per the point. When we spent more we finished ahead of them and thrashed them. Now that's not that case that's not the case.

Booooooom.💥💥

Only because of an overreach to "2 years this January" for dramatic purposes

We've sold two players for £65m this summer if it comes to that

Proper curate’s egg of a game. Failing to beat West Ham at home with Fabianski in goal and no Kudus feels like a big missed opportunity. Kudus is so good and Fabianski is an old man, although he did OK.

West Ham were what they have been for ages now - loads of good clever players going forward and right horrors in defence. They just rely on numbers at the back and 10 behind the ball for the most part to keep teams at bay, but they’re not good enough to do so for long. Your press was really good for most of the first half and it felt like just a matter of time before they caved, but then you basically gave them a goal.

Hall was terrific all game except for a couple of early moments where he showed his inexperience and one ultimately led to the goal. Under no pressure he flubbed a simple pass to Gordon and West Ham broke. Then from the corner Kelly - another player who did well for the bulk of the game - just completely lost his way and was punished.

After the goal you lost it for a bit. Joelinton was yet another who I thought looked great for the most part but oof, he was lucky the ref was trying to have one of those cardless games. You still pressed well and West Ham (Todibo in particular) are never more than a few minutes away from a big defensive rick. You just couldn’t exploit it. Then in the second half when they scored you lost it again and never consistently got it back. There’s not really a plan B, but there doesn’t necessarily have to be if you can replace like with like - you could see the midfielders lose steam midway through the second half and ideally would like to see one of the guys like Joelinton, Guimaraes or even Longstaff coming on at that point rather than coming off having run themselves into the ground. Tonali feels like the perfect guy to come on when you’re closing out a game rather than chasing one, although I can see the logic.

Bowen was incredible. There are games where I think he flatters to deceive at the top level but he was absolutely everywhere and barely put a foot wrong. I credit him with much of their second goal, and he could have been involved in two or three more. I thought Kelly dealt with Antonio about as well as anyone could hope for. You just needed a bit of class and/or the ball to fall your way a couple of times and to capitalize. It happened more rarely than I expected, and you never did.

I think with the benefit of hindsight you could have started Tonali. You were getting into a few good positions in the first half but created fewer key opportunities than I think you might have with a little more guile. I also wonder what the plan was down the left in that second half. It’s bizarre to me that with Barnes and Hall on that side, someone as defensive as Wan-Bissaka could spend so much time attacking.

Really can’t be too mad, tbh. We had the chances to level it, didn’t. West Ham gamesmanship was on from minute 1 and it never was going to drop for us. Thought the subs were shite, Kelly had some moments to forget too but this is football and the story of our season. Inconsistent.

It was a bit rich watching you boo Fabianski for taking his sweet time

Out gamesmanship is well in the past pretty much. We are a soft touch nowadays. Howe got criticised in the press, clearly didn’t like it and we ditched it.

Conceded a load of late goals too. Klopp and co’s comments worked a treat.

Exactly, all teams do it and it's all fine too. You can't complain about it if we're one of the worst around for doing it. Tams kill the game now, we used to be really good at it but we've lost that edge but West Ham pulled it off and fair play to them, no complaints, even the ref was ok (barring the pen we should have had).

We got what we deserved tbh. Fuck all
