Newcastle United Vs. Bromley - 12/01/25 @ 15:00 - Live on BBC iPlayer

It’ll be a rough and scrappy game if we play the reserves, because they just don’t have the ability to dominate any match. But we should still do enough to win.

Osula has a real chance on show what he can do here. And we’ll have Barnes.

Wouldn't usually advocate big changes for the cup games.  But without looking past this round, we are at home to a League Two side and actually have a decent'ish squad for once.  It wouldn't be like we are chucking loads of kids and stiffs in.  Quite a few could come in that were regular starters as recently as November/December.  Or experienced pros and starters from previous seasons.

It sounded like a few were struggling with niggles.  I think Botman, Isak and Tonali coming out are no brainers.  I also think Hall should get a rest, seeing as he is only 20 and has played A LOT this season.

Not sure on the state of the players with knocks, like those above and Willock.  But something like the below is pretty decent, I think:

Vlach (not Lush)

Trippier

Schar

Burn/Kelly

Targett/Kelly

Longstaff

Miley

Willock

Barnes

Osula

Murphy

Not sure Burn will be rested as he is so important to our shape and organisation at the back and he just loves playing for the club so much.  Plus I'm assuming they will look to set pieces for some success.  Maybe Bruno for the first 45-60 minutes from the start if Willock isn't good to go?  You could still have a bench with all our main men on bar maybe Isak if his hammy is a risk and Botman.

Based on what happened at Cambridge game,? and Sheffield Wed, am taking nothing for granted.

Me neither.  But Cambridge was at a totally different time for us as a club and with the players we had available.  Sheff Wed was a shitshow.  But it was away to one of the best sides in League One.  Not at home to a mid-table League Two team.

I think we can still field a strong side with a few players that have been starters for us over the last season or two and some of the fringe players that deserve a go.

With the chance to push for champions league and one foot in the league cup final. I'd probably be prepared to go all in on those two and sacrifice the fa cup. Not that we should need to with this opposition. But just wonder if we have the squad to fight on 3 fronts. We saw last year it was a real strain on the squad having extra games.

Hopefully we can keep resting players and get some nice draws for few more rounds and then we can review where we are at regards the league and squad fitness.

Wrong mentality.

We don't need to "sacrifice" the FA Cup, there's two games max left in the League Cup so we aren't going to be hugely stretched on three fronts. The proposed 2nd team most are saying is still huge favourites to win vs Bromley at home, then we see who we get next if we get through for what team we need to put out, and the next round of the FA Cup is the weekend after the League Cup semi so don't need to rest players for that.
