Unless someone is saying that the 5 minutes hadn't elapsed, it was consistent with practice to blow up once the Liverpool set-piece attack had broken down. We were unlucky with the Isak pen. It was a foul, but a difficult spot for the ref and then it failed on the 'clear and obvious' criterion. The Van Dijk incident was odd, but he was given the benefit of the doubt on the reasoning that his mind may have been elsewhere. I don't think he's a vicious player, and I'd have thought he was way too professional to deliberately clobber a player in open view like that. But it could have gone either way. I'm not a fan of the conspiratorial theory of refereeing. If it happens at all, I think it's rare in our leagues. Surely it’s clear and obvious if the video shows a foul and the referee missed it. That’s a massive error that changes a game. This is the part of the VAR guidelines that make no sense. If it’s a penalty, give a penalty. That’s the only way it should work. Covered Longstaff's grappling, BDB 'hand ball', no mention whatsoever of the absolutely blatant trip on Isak! I fucking hate Sky. What about van Dijk on Gordon? Dermot said it wasn't a clenched fist with rapid movement of the elbow, so the VAR would consider it just a collision as they were running together! It wasn't his elbow at all you daft cunt, it was his shoulder, and they weren't running together, vD ran towards him.
joeyt
I can probably think of only just a handful of world class performances I've seen at SJP from opposition players but that second half from Salah was unbelievable Best I've seen for a long time
joeyt
Ones off the top of my head are probably: Scholes in the 2-6 loss Yaya Toure in the 0-2 loss under Pardew Gerrard in the 1-5 loss in the first relegation season Probably some more I'm trying to remember Edited December 5, 2024 by joeyt
Mike
Has that cunt Madeley been hauled up in front of cameras to explain that fucking whistle in the 95th? Was there any discussion about that at all?

Mike
You will never see a top four/legacy PL club have their attack blown dead in that moment as long as you fucking live. Robot refs today. Put the cunts out of a job and on the street.

St1pe
We’ve had some awful decisions v Liverpool in recent years. I don’t think there’s any mad conspiracy but it’s also too common for it to be coincidence. Some sort of big club bias. The Salah pen he got when Dummet touched his hand still sticks in my mind. HaydnNUFC
Expected an improved performance and we got that in abundance. Probably should've won the game; Gordon's got to make it 2-0 just before HT and I felt in the 10 minutes before they scored their 3rd we needed fresh legs on but we didn't get them on until after they scored. Was fewwwwming. How the ref blows for time when he did is beyond me, there was a check for a nonsensical penalty after their players were whinging which should've added time on. Regardless, I'm still a miserable cunt; don't think any corners have been turned unless we can back it up against Brentford 2x, Leicester and Ipswich. It had ticked over 95 before Pope threw it. I'm not entirely sure when the whistle went. Really it should have been before the throw. But once the ball has been thrown and there is a clear attacking chance on convention is to allow that attack to happen, especially as time was only just up and there had been stoppages in there too. AyeDubbleYoo
Interesting. Part of the problem is that nobody knows what is considered when calculating added time. Or are there rules about it? Like, if you haven’t been booked for time wasting than presumably you haven’t wasted any time. I don’t really know exactly what gets added on. Fak
We took at least 2 minutes for Isak to take that freekick at the edge of the box so there definitely should have been added time on top of the allotted 5 minutes. joeyt
Liverpool spent at least 30 seconds, if not longer, in stoppage time claiming Burn handballed it and there was a VAR check for it

Cf
We did spend most of that 5 minutes feigning injury tbf. I dunno. I'm struggling to put too much on the ref yesterday. The VVD one, meh. Probably intended a bit cheekily but didn't seem a huge amount in it. Probably should be a yellow but VAR won't intervene for that. Isak penalty I can see why not given. Contact is minor and one of those where the attacker is actively looking for and leaning into the foul. Prob gets given the other way mind. Blowing at the end. I'm not entirely sure when the whistle went but we were at time and if he's blown not seeing the attack was on I can forgive him it. I thought he was otherwise decent. Let the game flow, gave them yellows when they deserved them rather than let them go, didn't give their pen claim either. Was one of the better performances I remember seeing recently to be fair. Boey_Jarton
Dislike the "VVD got cooked by Isak" chat. VVD is a class act and Isak gave him a tough game. That's what good players can do to each other. VVD didn't even do too much wrong for the goal, sometimes you just have to hold your hands up as defender.
