Lush Vlad Posted yesterday at 10:34 Share Posted yesterday at 10:34 2 minutes ago, Holmesy said: Because he's one of our more creative players and a genuine goal threat with both feet. Nothing more than that really. We lose so much creativity without Bruno in the side so unless we're planning on parking the bus (not Eddie's style) that creativity ideally needs replacing. I'm not suggesting a like-for-like swap for Bruno, i'm suggesting a more advanced role behind Isak. I'm basically trying to come up with alternatives to starting Longstaff in midfield No. I get that and knew you weren’t suggesting he plays as one of the 8s. I just don’t see it at all. I don’t think he is particularly creative with his passing. Not skilful or decent in tight areas. His game is all about running in behind and getting space to go at a fullback 1 v 1. Along with his volume of crosses he’ll chuck in. I’d actually like to see him start to freshen it up and give us someone more clinical in the side. Just not sure who would come out the side. I think it will be the same as Spurs. With Longstaff/Willock in for Bruno. Plus maybe Kelly for Botman if the numbers say he shouldn’t start.
Holloway Posted yesterday at 10:35 Share Posted yesterday at 10:35 Most likely be Longstaff, but Miley is not without big game experienced, Eddie alluded to it in his presser
Mikky Posted yesterday at 10:35 Share Posted yesterday at 10:35 For me it’s one of Miley or Willock in for Bruno

They’ve got 8 games between now and the second leg including Man United on Sunday followed by Spurs on the Wednesday. Just don’t think they’ll prioritise this over the league, FA Cup and Champions League. Will undoubtedly be wrong like. Friend who's an Arsenal fan said they'll be full strength as they basically don't have options to rotate.
Lush Vlad Posted yesterday at 10:41 Share Posted yesterday at 10:41 I like Miley. But I find it a bit mad so many people are clamouring for him to start in place of Bruno? He was chucked in before he was ready to be starting regularly last year and whilst he was promising. It was clear he wasn’t quite up to playing meaningful minutes every week. He’s hardly featured this year and this is our biggest game of the season. I’m not even a big fan of Longstaff and Willock is out of form. But I just don’t see Howe playing Miley ahead of those two and nor should he, IMO.

What we saw from him was neat, tidy and risk-adverse which is exactly what he should have been under the circumstances. But that isn't what we need to replace Bruno. We need drive, creativity and forward momentum. Of our remaining CMs, I think Willock is the only option.
Holloway Posted yesterday at 10:45 Share Posted yesterday at 10:45 Passing range, way ahead of Longstaff. And it's hoping rather than clamouring .

But Willocks legs, along with Tonali’s ability to cover ground and Joelinton’s bull in a china shop routine might work well tonight.
Dan Gleebals Posted yesterday at 10:50 Share Posted yesterday at 10:50 With the players they have out, and the ones we have. Hard to say tonight which way this goes. I think whilst Howe would never sit back, I think we might be a bit more reserved and invite them forward a bit for the counter. Think he will trust Longstaff more with this tactically, as we have the pace upfront. Willock to come on later in the game.

We'll obviously miss Bruno's ability as a conductor, but it will increase our running power and defensive rigidity. Ultimately it might result in us defending too much though as I can see the ball getting lost in possession a lot more than usual. I just hope he doesn't move Tonali to accommodate

nufc4eva Posted yesterday at 11:23 Share Posted yesterday at 11:23 He will start with Longstaff but would be good to start with Willock and big Joe to press early on and then bring on Longstaff when we need to sit deeper.

Ginola14 Posted yesterday at 12:42 Share Posted yesterday at 12:42 (edited) The 2-0 QF defeat in 1996 at Highbury still hurts after all these years, especially Ginola getting played by Dixon and his subsequent loss of form that game also happened to be live on ITV even if we don't go all the way, some payback here would be sweet (even though their fans don't really care about this) Edited yesterday at 12:44 by Ginola14
