Newcastle United 3-0 Aston Villa - 26/12/24

As per others it’s a clear red.  He lost his head.  Pure stupidity.

Villa were slightly on top at the time but it means nothing.  Even Ipswich had a period of play after our first.   During this phase I felt we were one decent pass away from a second.

The result set up a brilliant Boxing Day steak feast with my family.  Cheers Duran.

Really wasn't sure about the red card tbh. It wasn't a stamp, it was a scrape and he does lose his footing and balance which could well be what causes his leg to instinctively come out. On the other hand he loses his balance because he treads on Schar and he's looking at him the whole time.

It's all very quick in real time but he had a couple of steps first, he shouldn't be stepping on Schar in the first place there so I'm leaning to red because of that.

The first (left foot) was. I missed the first one at the time and thought it was harsh, but there's a couple of angles where it's pretty clear he aims his left foot towards Schar.

Yeah, I meant not a stamp with the right, he does step on Schar and shouldn't.

It's not a clear red, otherwise the debate wouldn't be so split.  I think it was harsh and we would be taking that view if it were one of ours.  The rolling of the left ankle caused the apparent clumsy fall

Definitely looks worse in slow motion, can see why it's split. Also if it had been one of our players think there would be a  lot more calls for accidental.

He rolled his left ankle trying to stamp on schar though [emoji38]

Maybe Duran would have got away with the first deliberate stamp with his left foot. He had the choice of stepping over him with his right but he  brings his foot back to ensure he connects for a second time which makes the decision easier.

I thought we looked a class act today and Martinez saved them from a proper embarrassing humping.

Nothing wrong with @David Edgar seeing the momentum of the game swing to Villa for a bit. I thought so too but wasn’t sure they’d score.
Overall I think we’d have won 11 v 11 because I think we had better players in midfield.

It’s the “Can only see villa winning this” shite patter. So pointlessly mind-numbingly negative bullshit that he can’t help himself from posting. Sad that he can’t bring himself to find a bit of joy watching us.

Well, I don’t know the bloke but I imagine it’s born of PTSD of watching us for years pre EH. They do say pessimists are among the happiest of people :bluestar:

He tries to get him 3 times. Left foot, right foot across the back and then flicks the same right footed trying to catch Schar on the head with the follow through.

Of course all 3 were just unfortunate and accidental, there's simply no way he could have avoided implanting his studs into Schar 3 times.

To me if you've played any sort of footy, you know exactly what Duran is doing.

Something that annoyed me a little bit is that I think Bruno’s goal should have stood.

If the ball had gone in directly off his arm then yes disallow it, but the sizeable deflection off the defender on the post after Bruno’s touch actually turned the ball in. The deflection from Bruno’s arm was going wide and therefore the goal would have been deemed an OG rather than a Bruno goal, meaning his touch was an “assist” rather than him being the goal scorer.
