They didn’t get priority did they? I thought they were in pot 6 too?

You’re right I got a bit carried away. However, my point about ST holders benefiting from a guaranteed home ticket only still stands.

Still bitter.

A related (albeit somewhat self-indulgent) story.

If anyone can remember the Black n White magazine that came out in the mid-90’s, well they ran a fantasy football competition (the precursor to FPL for any youngsters) which 15 year old me won for season 96/97 (largely thanks to inspired late season subs of Pav, Robbie Elliot and Dean Sturridge if memory serves).

Anyway the prize was two ST’s for the 97/98 season. As I didn’t have ST’s at the time and only really attended matches occasionally this was obviously a tremendous prize. Subsequently had to attend SJP with my dad for the photoshoot for the magazine and met the editor (I think), a guy called Mark Gillespie (obv not that one).

Everything went great with the ST’s, apart from us being piss poor under Dalglish and Shearer being injured, but we bought CL tickets and obviously was at the Barca game.

FA cup came round and we were able to buy our seats no probs. Reach the semi final against Sheff Utd at Old Trafford and we applied for tickets with a neighbour who also had a ST with his son. As I remember you had to apply for away tickets via a particular slip from a little booklet you got with your ST, and post them off, so we posted all for applications off together. Got word back that two had been successful and two hadn’t, but there seemed to be some confusion over which was which.

Anyway, my neighbour said they were the successful ones, and they went, although it transpired that it should have been us as the money got taken from my dad. I think it was all probably a genuine mix-up and my dad probably didn’t want to have an argument about it, so just let them go.

Obviously get to final and apply for tickets again (can’t remember if we did it with the neighbour again or not). After applying we get a phone call one day from this Mark Gillespie, saying sorry but the terms and conditions of winning the ST didn’t allow us to buy cup tickets. Obviously my dad was like, wtf are you talking about we’ve been buying them all season, but this twat clearly wanted them for himself, or someone he knew, and managed to pull enough strings to get them diverted to him.

So I suppose the moral of the story is that cup final tickets will always bring out the worst in people.

I’m raging for you in 1998.

I went to all three semis but didn’t get a sniff of a final ticket for either of them.

Cheers. Thinking ahead [emoji38]

I dare say in the event of us qualifying again it could be a tad easier, as there’s 4 games rather than 3, and not everyone will be against a European monster like we had there.

Obviously would still depend on allocations like.

I agree with your point. Unfortunately due to the lack of authentication process for membership and minimal punishment if one caught being abused i think the clubs thinking was to treat ST Holders (who are also technically members don’t forget) the same as individual memberships on this occasion to avoid 1000’s of Cup Final tickets falling in the hands of un-genuine fans. Out of 853/100000 odds maybe no ST without Cup Scheme got any anyway but we’ll never know for sure.

They need to look at the memberships from top to bottom going forward to factor in the effort the genuine make.

Eh I don't see how this logic holds whatsoever for not prioritising members who have been to more games, i.e. the same treatment as STHs.

You think they thought there were dodgy memberships who have somehow managed to attend all cup games, therefore they'd just lump them in with anyone who'd shown a passing interest?

I'd say including those who'd applied for only one cup ballot makes the likelihood of that way higher, there may even be fans of other clubs like Arsenal who were able to apply given the criteria.

In many cases the only difference between a member who goes to every home game and a season ticket holder who goes to every home game, is likely to be that one person was willing to continue going under Ashley and the other person wasn’t

And now we’ve got a completely segregated system, where the ones who continued under Ashley hold all the cards and the ones who didn’t aren’t allowed a seat at the table, or even an opportunity to get a seat at the table

Giving less than 1000 tickets to members (and not even prioritising any of them) out of an allocation of 32,000 is brutal and simply spotlights the shit attitude of the club towards members

I have nothing against season ticket holders (apart from the miserable ones that choose to continually piss and moan in the ground), but the club need to do something to give more balance to the fanbase

It’s 3.5 years since we got rid of the fat parasitic cunt and they’ve still done nothing at all to recognise members whose attendance at games makes them just as “loyal” as most of our ST holders. We get charged a £40 fee to buy tickets game by game and get sweet fuck all else

was always a risk giving up your ST as a protest against Ashley.

never was a guarantee you'd get it back in case of a takeover. you would have been fighting for them with a load of potential glory hunters.

thats why we stayed despite despising Ashley.

Giving up a season ticket because you couldn’t stand by and watch what that cunt was doing to the club was a risk. The merits of staying vs going are still too emotive and divisive for either side to discuss sensibly, we all made our choices to do one or the other and that’s that

But that’s not what I’m pissed off about

I’m increasingly irate that for 3.5 years they’ve done nothing at all to create a ladder for anyone without an ST (not just the Ashley protesters) to improve their status in any way

They’ve got “customers” who plough thousands of £’s and a ridiculous amount of time and energy into getting to games and they offer nothing in recognition of this

That’s my issue

Touts probably the most successful buyers disguised as members. Probably 100% success. Nothing to do with “attending”. Attendance is irrelevant on the metrics.

Same argument i get could be used against someone with an ST abusing it.

What I’m saying is there are for more of the former than latter so thats probably why they went with what they did. Also if caught they’ve score retrieving an ST that they can convert to General.

Sadly, I don’t think it’s possible for a middle aged man who obsesses over football tickets, fingerblasting in the park, doing the nasty with Michelle Collins and hating xG to have any integrity left

Also want to think ahead on this. A European away is a bucket list thing pour moi. But would need/want 2 tickets as I'd rather not mope about an Italian or dodgy Eastern Bloc city on my tod. That's another thing though, need to actually qualify first.

You'd know someone who's going man. We went to Metz and it was like walking down Northumberland street the amount of people I knew.
