Childhood memory but I was at the 76 home coming. I'm sure the team went round the SJP pitch to a packed crowd? Any other beautifully mature superstars remember that?

I was at the 76 final, but don't have any memories of the home-coming.

I was also at the 74 final, and DO remember that homecoming, and also have newspaper cuttings of it . . .

Am i being completely daft but why did we have an open top bus parade for losing finals in the 90s?

Was it a thing to have a bus parade despite not winning anything?

Seems a bit small time. Especially when our managers weren't exactly well liked at the time

We’ve got history. My first ever trip to SJP—which was absolutely packed, along with a smattering of tin foil covered cardboard trophies and dancing magpies—was to welcome them back after losing the ‘76 League Cup final.

So we used to do that kind of thing (…yes, I do mean lose League Cup finals 😉).

If you're not going to the Town Moor, will it even be possible to see the bus route through town? Seems like it hits the motorway pretty early on too.

I've accepted town will be heaving, but I genuinely don't know how to find a spot without going now [emoji38]

Main bits I think will be packed very earlier on is SJP or nearer the end of the route so people can get over to town moor - around Haymarket I think is probably best bet if not getting down pretty earlier on.

As far as i know I don't think it goes onto the main Central Motorway at all, here is the route and timetable . . .

1 - Barrack Road (from St. James’ Park to Gallowgate)
2 - Gallowgate
3 - Percy Street
4 - Haymarket

5 - Great North Road
6 - Town Moor

Fwiw I think the slip road from the Central motorway leading down to the Great North Road would be a canny vantage point if you got there early. Straight out of Exhibition park and across the slip road when they close off vehicular access from the Central motorway

Definitely the slip road from the North Bound lane. Great vantage point, tbf.
