He didn't bite at the fakes and right before the kick his weight started to move to right but he quickly adjusted and was able to get to the ball. I know most hate those penalties but IMO it was more amazing job by Pope than a poor penalty by Eze. I doubt Pope did it on purpose but faking the way you are going will make the kicker look fucking stupid on those. It's the most efficient penalty style until keepers learn to adjust and I'm so happy Isak did it too recently. I think Trippier said to him to basically stand up as long as possible, presumably they practiced pens on England duty last summer.
pubteam Posted Wednesday at 22:25 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:25 Unreal performance by the lads. We attack with a savage directness and create utter chaos in the oppositions defence. The amount of times we stole the ball it felt like a crime was being committed. Oh and patterns of play 🥰🥰🥰
TheInfiniteOdyssey Posted Wednesday at 22:25 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:25 Wonder why they didn’t start Wharton, they looked much better with him in the midfield. Having said that, we were coasting at that point.

BlueStar Posted Wednesday at 22:27 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:27 What did the Strawberry Corner sing to the tune of "Sandro ole ole" as a one off that got a chuckle out of everyone? Apart from me and me dad who couldn't catch it.

Superior Acuña Posted Wednesday at 22:35 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:35 There was a time this season where we were quite low scoring. Now only Liverpool and Man City have scored more than us - and Man City is just a single goal more. We took over Arsenal and Tottenham tonight. We only drew level with Chelsea at the weekend. Pata Posted Wednesday at 22:36 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:36 Saw Crystal Palace fans say that Wharton has been a bit out of form after coming back from a long injury.
McDog Posted Wednesday at 23:08 Share Posted Wednesday at 23:08 Watching the highlights, it's clear as day Pope punched the ball but it skidded off into Billy Preston's head. Horrific penalty decision.

He punched the ball with his right, left arm wasn't exactly a clattering. That said, it was given and saved on the worst penalty take in recent memory. edit: Just watched it again a few times, I completely disagree. He came out and punched the ball, albeit a partial connection. He didn't hit him that hard with the body either. One last edit, was extremely daft to go out there in the first place. It's not data based so happy to be proven wrong with data but effective penalties more often seem to be ones where the striker remains in decent motion and simply strikes it with assertion. This modern phenomenon of penalty taking is absolutely, embarrassingly wank and made Eze look an utter tit and cost his team the game tonight. Or at least a chance to remain int the tie. Good goalkeeping from Pope/heads up from Trippier but irrespective a penalty should be scored.

Good goalkeeping from Pope/heads up from Trippier but irrespective a penalty should be scored. It basically takes all the luck out of it. If you pick a corner keeper has 50/50 chance of diving the right way and a decent chance to save it if he does. The margin for error on top bins and right on the corner is pretty low even if the keeper can't ever save it. With the stop start/jump pen keeper basically has no chance if it's done perfectly. Either the keeper doesn't move and is too late to react when the taker passes it in or the keeper crumbles under the pressure and makes the first move and the taker can just pass it in to the other corner. alexf Posted Wednesday at 23:29 Share Posted Wednesday at 23:29 Main issue is Eze did t get any power on it. Isak took one exactly like that before but had enough pace on the shot for it to still go in.

Aye, Pope was able to stand still long enough that Eze wasn't able to get enough power on it anymore and it still wasn't that easy save. Isak and Schär iirc have done it beautifully this season. alexf Posted Wednesday at 23:39 Share Posted Wednesday at 23:39 Why the hell did two of their players press Joelinton on that 2nd goal? Just left them completely exposed. Bet coaches and managers tear their hair out at that sort of thing.
r0cafella Posted Thursday at 00:57 Share Posted Thursday at 00:57 What a performance. Teams better think twice about coming to SJP and playing that goofy formation because the punishment we dished out tonight was absolutely brutal. The rotations and overloading were as good as you will see period. We are an elite team and massive credit is due to all involved.
