Aston Villa 4-1 Newcastle United - 19/04/2025

Recommended Posts

Got our tactics a bit wrong and started off on the wrong foot performance wise. Somehow managed to keep a foothold in the game through their inability to make the most of their opportunities which then clicked second half and they subsequently battered us.

Was always a risk here for me. Disappointed but not shocked. Gotta put Ipswich to bed next week and then hopefully one or two results go our way to ease the pressure.

I'm not being smug - you've been on here long enough to know if we put a teamsheet out with Willock, Miley, Longstaff, Krafth, Osula on it then it would have been criticised.

There were no suggestions to play Longstaff before the game- you know we've played the same team for 6 or 7 games in a row now, how can you have no idea about us potentially being knackered as if it was common sense that we should have rotated?

Anyone suggesting we should have played Longstaff today is completely out of their mind

In hindsight I would have played Longstaff instead of Bruno.  Actually I would have played a tent instead of Bruno today.

Villa was so much better than us - sadly they deserved to win. We had our chances but lately Isak just doesn't score as much as he should. Anyways it's amazing that we are so close to reach ECL.... We haven't spent any $ for ages...Luckily for us, our main squad didn't deal with many injuries. We took a big risk to not spend any money. Imagine if Isak, Bruno, Tonali got injured...Let's move on to the next ones :).

Not going to criticise Tindall at all for sticking with the same side, we've looked fucking sensational over the last few weeks and he's brought off players so they're not doing 90+ each game either. Winning the games has been the only thing that's mattered recently and to do that you pick your best players as often as you can, it's not like we've got great options off the bench, we've pretty much gone full strength from the off and won the vast majority. Easy to be hyper-critical after the event

Today was just a shocker and we lost away to a very, very good team. It's still all in our hands

You keep saying we should have rotated and rested players but you don't seem to appreciate that the players on the bench are either shite or completely out of form

Nah that's just you making shit up again.

We can't put players like Digne, Onana, Rashford and Ramsay on the bench.

We had Miley, Krafth, Gordon, Willock and Longstaff on the bench. All are more than capable of putting performances in in the league. The former 3 are genuinely good players I'd trust in any game and no indication they're out if form. Longstaff and Willock have their moments. I'm not saying we should have started either of them, I'm pointing out that our bench isn't full of literal dross like us being made out.

It's easy to say "oh we should have rotated" after a loss but there was no mention of that before the game and you're completely overrating the players we do have on our bench

Are you on cowwies?

Sshhhhhhhhhhhhh!  Not allowed, he's class man.

He is a great player and ambassador for the club, but it's beyond frustrating when he gets caught up in that stuff.

Takes away from his game so much.

When should we have rotated then? We've been taking off our best players when we've won the game in all previous matches. And it nearly came to hurt us against Forest

You're delusional if you think you can just drop Longstaff into the team at the moment and it not to disrupt the patterns of play which have won us 6 games in a row

So reading between the lines, "cough", do you agree that Bruno was shite today?  Why does no-one say it?

Just thinking about todays match again, and reminded me a lot of the Bournemouth game at home, and not just the scoreline.

Came up against a team that seemed more up for it, and quicker and better than us generally on the day.

Hopefully just the run of games taking a toll on us, and a reset against Ipswich will see us back on track.

Had a feeling we’d lose and put in a poor display when I seen we were unchanged. That’s not knocking Tindall, as Gordon aside there isn’t really anyone obvious to bring in.

Shite day but win next week and it’ll be forgotten. CL is in our hands.

I mean sometime in the last 3 it seems.

You're doing that thing again when you just make shit up. Longstaff over any of our midfield 3 is obviously a massive downgrade, don't think I've ever suggested otherwise.

To try and get to the bottom of this, did you think we looked tired today, and were suffering from fatigue?
