Brentford will surely demand an outrageous fee (£60-70m) for Wissa with kick-off only a week on Saturday, that's assuming they're willing to do a deal at all. Think we've probably missed the boat on this one.

I don’t think it was about the fee, they just won’t let him go without a replacement.

£100 mil with no resale value was exactly what the bald prick Mitchell was banging on about when he said our transfer strategy wasn't fit for purpose tho. Although I'd enjoy them scoring goals for fun in the meantime.

Then we'd be cursing the decision in two years time when they have no resale value and our PSR limit is in the red.

Let’s see if they qualify for the CL.

They will have a better chance than us at this rate. With the size of our squad and the number of games this is likely a repeat of 2 years ago

Except we’re currently weaker than we were 2 years ago. With 8 extra games instead of 6.

But they’d score a shit tonne of goals in the meantime.

You'd like to think so yeah and obviously that's the upside of doing those kind of transfers. They're ready right now to contribute and you see the immediate benefits but the downside is what happens down the line a couple of years. Just look at Wilson, great servant and good numbers for years and then his output fell off a cliff very quickly.

The other aspect is the outlay means your instant results approach dictates you need champions League qualification, you don't get it and your in trouble as you have an asset which is worth nothing like what you've paid.

Crazy, but true. Atleast going into the season when the Tonali ban was not yet know. We have barely signed a player of note since then, and we've sold 2 midfielders (we ended up having a midfield crisis that season, even with those 2 in the squad). Osula and Elanga in for Wilson and Almiron. Ramsdale in for Dubravka. Potensial Miley breakthrough, with Hall + Livra improved vs Trippier decline (since that season). Atleast we will most likely have less injuries and suspensions, because that season is very hard to beat on these points.
