Hiring Keith Andrews hardly screams ambition - that alone could be enough to make him want to leave.

Kanj
The deal is done the arguments have been made on both sides. Can we draw the line in the sand in a few days time and just get on about how we have this really fun player in our side? Please?
KaKa
He was the only Prem player that scored a similar number of goals to the previous striker upfront, that also has speed in behind and down the channels, and can also carry the ball and create chances for his team mates, providing some of the traits that the previous striker did. He can also play on the left, right and through the middle. As he's adjusted to the league already, he also takes a ton of pressure off Woltemade's shoulders and should allow him to be brought along at a pace that works for him. He also fits well alongside Woltemade when they are paired as their styles complement each other. I also can't see him having an issue being rotated at times for Woltemade either, as he played more of a complementary role when Toney was still at Brentford. We had to do this transfer once it was at all possible. We've done it at the absolute highest limit at £55 million, which you can't really blame Brentford for, as it is a big risk for them. Ideally we'd have got away with paying around £45 million, which would have probably been about right for him (taking into account his age and 2 years left on his contract). I'd say we went £10 million over, which I think was well worth doing. Luis Diaz went to Bayern for £65 million this summer, he is a year younger at 28 this year, and he's more of an out and out winger and not the level of goal scorer Wissa is, as he tends to be quite erratic in front of goal. I think we did just fine with this deal and it will become more and more apparent once we get back to playing matches. TwoForJoy
Will he be our new penalty taker? I notice he takes them for Congo.

Do generally agree though that you usually want your CF to have the mindset that they'll take the responsibility. Though Andy Cole was a pretty decent without taking them tbf. Andy
I do find it funny when people say "he's just turned 29!!" as if we should be rolling him out in a wheelchair. He's still in his prime man Aye he'll be coming to the end of his career when his contract is up, but there's nothing wrong with that. Not every signing needs to have resale value. Apart from all the qualities you listed there, he can also strike the ball really well, as we should know from the screamer he scored against us not that long ago. Which is important, because that was also one of Isak's qualities, so hopefully we won't miss that aspect. I know we were linked with Muniz earlier in the window but maybe I just saw the wrong highlights but didn't see that quality in him.
Abacus
Agreed that the resale point is valid but in my mind not relevant. You have to do both at the same time. Or are we a team that only sees selling for a profit and one revenue stream and doesn't care about our league position? A feeder club, essentially until the mythical day that we bridge the gap? But even if you do think that way, if we want him here then surely it's with the point of view of making us more attractive long term, by finishing a few places higher, winning more games, making a dent in the CL, all of which can earn extra revenue and that more than pays it off. You could make a case that we'd be 1-7 points better off by now with him in. Maybe not, you can't deal in counterfactuals, but still it's clear in every game what we've been lacking. How much difference would say 4 of those points make at the end of the season as to where we finish?

Abacus
Couldn't care less about the price btw. I reckon he'll have a ball playing here, Howe will squeeze every last inch and him playing against the likes of PSG and Barcelona will be spine tingling. On the whole yes, we don't want too many players with limited resale value, but that shouldn't stop us from doing deals like this. Wissa's goals could be the difference between progressing further in the CL and/or qualifying again and not. That would easily cover the extra £20-25m he cost versus a more risky move that may not have paid off.

Just want to play football really" Haha yep likewise, can't be arsed with forced sentiment - just put the ball in the net lad and the crowd will do the rest for you. I can understand a young local lad getting emotional about wearing the no.9, but it really isn't a requirement for anyone else.
TheBrownBottle
Shearer scored 100 PL goals for us after his 29th birthday. You're not exactly finished at that age. Wilson probably would have had another season or two in him if it wasn't for the fact that he's made out of cobwebs and stickyback plastic
