Jackson would be a good signing if it was £50m and a rotational option.

He would be passable then, but as pointed out we aren't getting him at that price and he isn't coming here to warm the bench. Also the optics are indeed awful.

And again Chelsea play 4231 where he dovetailed with Palmer, he will be flapping about getting sent off when we are lumping balls to him from deep because we are too tired to press

Signing Jackson for above what Chelsea paid would be madness. They gambled on him and he’s bombed. He’s not wanted there and they’re expecting a profit? I’d be offering a loan with an option to buy and, only as a last resort.

Man, none of us are thrilled at the prospect of Jackson but to say he’s bombed is ridiculous. He’s erratic but 1 in 3 is not bombing and he made a lot of opportunities for Palmer.

if it comes to it, Eddie will get more out of him

Doubt Eddie can do anything about his finishing. One in three might sound ok but he doesn’t look a natural finisher. Could be a confidence thing but he’s now had a couple of seasons where’s he’s been missing when he should have scored.

He's worst in every metric and Isak took 2 months off after the cup final man.

You don't want your striker massively underperforming xg especially if he's your main guy.

You can't just disregard how well he compares in all of those areas outside of his finishing!

And as I've said already Jackson really only makes sense if the other striker that is brought in is a more clinical finisher, so we have a good balance of options.

I gotta agree with TCD. There's no way we're signing a certified bagsman and baller this transfer window, and even the pool of bagsmen pending certification seems to have all but dried up. I wouldn't take Jackson even for £50 million however. Aside from the sour taste and the chance that he'd become one of our highest earners, with Gordon and Elanga either side I'm not sure that we need headless running as much as a bit of composure and nous. After the summer we are having, there'll be nothing like a striker who can't finish when it comes to sucking all of the air out of the stadium.

No way to really know, I didn’t think Eddie could turn Murphy into an assist machine. I’d sooner have Jackson than a guy like Hoiland who is never even in the right place to miss.

Isak's last season at Sociedad before he joined Newcastle. When we were told he wasn't a goal scorer as he only got 6 goals the season before. He was underperforming his xg then too. Wasn't a deal breaker for Eddie then and I don't think it will be now. If he likes Jackson it will be down to a number of factors.

I agree with most of this, but from what I’ve seen, he rarely strikes the ball cleanly. That’s not something you can effectively coach at this level; you’d just have to accept it, like we do with Gordon or Bruno, and hope he offers enough in other areas to make up for that flaw.

It doesn’t help, like you said, that he’s very panicky in front of goal too.

a number of clean finishes off both feet

Even this - a lot of the misses are down to poor shot selection which is a massive problem (decision making I guess). He tries to shoot a lot with his left and off balance. So often his last movement or touch before shooting isn' right which makes him fluff the finish which is a composure/technique combination. Part of the reason he takes so many shots with his left is he's not anticipating the pass correctly or positioning his body well - and then he takes a swipe.

Compare to Isak. Isak doesn't use his left. He either positions himself to go right footed first-time or he brings the ball down to try and shift it to the right and attempt a finish he's comfortable with. Isak wouldn't attempt a lot of these shots at all.

Are we now trying to look at ways of justifying 50M and more for a player Chelsea bought for around 20M less and are actively looking to move on?

I’d rather have bought Nunez (can’t believe I’ve typed that).

Regardless of whether you think he's good, OK or shite, Chelsea - a club we aspire to be better than - have signed two strikers this summer. He's their third choice striker.

Anything more than their money back on him will be an overpay.

Feel like I've stepped back in time.

I think he's worth more than what they paid tbh. That being said he'd be a poor replacement for Isak and it they want 50m + and he wants to be the starter than we should be passing.

I ask again, would anyone be ok with him replacing Isak? Aka he becomes the main man the 9?

I’d back Howe to get more out of almost any Chelsea player because he’s fundamentally a better manager than Maresca.

We will end up paying more because Jackson is “proven” in the premier league now versus when Chelsea bought him so +£.

id much rather have the miracle of a reintegrated Isak and Wissa for the season though.

Definitely not. I'd be half tempted to report us to UEFA or FIFA if we spent £70m of the Isak money on him. For crimes against the sport.

Context is important right, we won't be signing him In vacuum for a few made up by kaka.

If they want more than 50m, noone will buy him. We can just tell them that we won't buy him if they want more than this, and then they won't have a buyer at all. Obviously we should start even lower.

I actually think he’d work really well against Villa away first game of the season

I’m sure he would if he wasn’t suspended for the dickhead red he got for putting his heed on Sven.
