Damn.

We thought we were getting that kind of player in Wissa but he showed up looking like Brando for the filming of Apocalypse Now.

He was like the third fastest CF in the PL last season behind Haaland and someone I’m forgetting. I think the two behind him were Jackson and Pedro. We were clearly after a type, but between the lack of preseason and the injury we have a broken down version of what we bought.

After close to £130M spent on strikers we look better with Gordon up top who isn't great in the first place. I'd snap your hands off if a decent bid comes in for him or Wissa.

he’s a wonderful guy and super talented but I’d happily send him to Bayern with a full set of best wishes to get a pacy young striker to lead our line next season.

What come on y’all. He’s a young kid in a new country learning a new league and new style. Loaning him out isn’t the answer as much as selling him isn’t the answer. Give the kid a preseason at least before this kind of talk starts.

He will score for fun next season and we'll all look silly.

In the Bundesliga?  Probably.  No-one in English football would be kicking our door in for him.

We’ve paid far too much to be loaning him out, too.

Not sure of the context of Howe's comments but last night wasn't too different to how we played the press against Everton, City, Chelsea or PSG, all of which this lad started in :aww: he'll be back. I'd be far more concerned if I was Wissa.

I actually thought Gordon played in a very similar fashion to Woltemade. He floated around in different spaces rather than playing as a typical striker, but he was supported by 2 fluid wingers who made decisive runs and also had 2 midfielders bombing on with intent and speed.

Gordon's pressing pace is obviously very good though.

He's 24. You made it sound like he's 20.

There's too much potential in Nick to give up on him so easily.

We're starting to see him come on in the more withdrawn role and that shows that we are trying to learn how to best use him.

Seen encouraging signs every time he's played in there and once Eddie has more time with him on the training ground + a full preseason we will start to see the benefits.

Also think if he fills out abit and gets abit stronger he will settle into the league far better. He's never going to be quick so may aswell pile on some more muscle and become a better focal point than he is at the moment. He's too easily pushed and bullied currently.

Funny thing is that most pundits normally bang on about forwards reaching their peak between 27-31, but a lot of the goalscorers over the last few decades have tended to have their best seasons before they reach 25 to 27.  Their goalscoring tails off after that.  I can’t name a forward who suddenly learned how to have a forward’s instinct after turning 24 - most good strikers have shown it by that point.

Wouldn't read too much into that tbh. It's how we wanted to play so it was horses for courses. If we're going to become a more possession-based side then Nick becomes more useful.

Aye agree with Ki. I'll start to be concerned if both him and Wissa are chained to the bench for the rest of the season

It looks like it’s based on mins played, but either way that would suggest that the peak years are 24-29.  24 is definitely not young for a PL striker.

Peak ages are a lot lower nowadays I feel. Players are being pushed from very young aged nowadays.

Interesting that he came on in midfield. Howe given up on him as a 9?

Think it was more that we didn't have a midfielder on the bench

Its something I've also had to adapt to mentally, I don't expect much improvement to a players game once they hit say 21 for example. Especially if they've been getting first team minutes from say 18.

The big nick we have now is very much the big nick of the future. I'm sure we can make him a bit stronger and play a bit quicker but I wouldn't expect too much improvement outside of adaptation to the league.
