Boo-boys got another new target then?

He wasn't great tonight and he's perhaps not been great of recent, but bear a few things in  mind.... this is his first perhaps 'proper' season after breaking through in Germany with Frankfurt, He's still young, he's playing in a brand new country and is still adapting to the league and obviously quicker pace.  He's probably suffering that we don't have a proper no.9 at the moment, and has been perhaps unfairly thrown into that role, due to the Isak situation and Wissa's injury and poor form since returning.

The lad will come good - don't write him off yet fellas.

Not a case of writing him off, but he hasn’t been thrown into a role - he played most of last season as a centre forward, and the furthest back he ever played was as a deeper lying centre forward.  He’s a centre forward.  The worry is that we’ve had our pants absolutely pulled down on this one - Uli Hoeness is a cunt, but a cunt with a point.  He’s not particularly young for a player, either - he’s 24.  He needs time, but he also has to be showing a lot more than he has so far. He’s also not on a YTS salary.

A lot of the stuff he tried tonight didn't come off but, as others have said, he played a key part in most of the big chances we created. If we want him to be a creative outlet we've got to accept that a lot of stuff he tries won't come off

thats what basically what all the “creators” got criticized during his time here. Even Ben Arfa got these kinda comments.

without realizing if they didn’t risk and dare to try, no one else in the team could.

I really don't want us to give up on him too early. I can easily see a scenario where he goes to Bayern and ends up being one of the world's best, there must be a way we can make it work for him here, he's too talented to write off now.

Just can't see him working within Howe's system and the system isn't going to change. He is just too isolated whichever position he plays. He needs players feeding into him and running off him in closer proximity. Works well for Germany (after being isolated also the first few games), where he is involved throughout the game and is also getting into goal scoring positions regularly. Just can't see Howe changing his whole system to accommodate one player as he likes his wide players on the touchline. Fit is just not there, which is frustrating with the huge amount we paid out.

What's this based on by the way? Genuinely curious

On Nick Woltemade:

"I think the main thing we've been saying to him is stay between the lines. Certainly don't come away from their midfield line to still be a goal threat because he's 6'7, he should still be a target from crosses.

"There were a few balls there that on another day he could've got on the end of because we want him to score goals. That's part of the reason we brought him here.

"I think there were moments for him but I think that was the least impact he's had in that position for us."

Not sure what the plan is here

Without seeing the interview seems to be a bit of frustration in those words

He was just answering Rooney’s question, and the interview actually came across more positive than it reads.

FWIW, I’m confident that with a bit more time training under Howe, he’s going to be a really good player for us. The lad started the season looking excellent; it’s sad that some people are already writing him off.

It's not really happened for him for the past few months but he's still putting the graft in and trying to make things happen. Still think we seen enough in the early part of his time here to suggest there's something there. Like I say you can't knock his effort so for that reason alone I'm sticking with him.

The main problem is that Howe hasn't got a clue what to do with him yet. 2 of Englands best strikers in Shearer and Rooney pretty much alluded to that at times during yesterday's coverage. Still a work in progress.

Not writing him off as a player, just difficult to see where he fits in for us. Probably harsh to judge until he and the squad have a full pre season together mind.

I love him. If we can have an actual competent, drama free, summer I think we see a different player next season.

NO: We need more technically  gifted players who are comfortable on the ball and add a bit of creativity.

Also NO: I don't see where this technically gifted player, who is comfortable on the ball and adds a bit of creativity fits.

I'm not sure what point you're getting at though?

Our whole game plan isn't based on technical ability it's based on speed and power not really intricate football.

Wouldn't better footballers improve our game plan though?

One thing that can't be said about Nick, he is never hiding, he is always trying to give someone an option when in midfield.

He is technically gifted and is going through a rough time.

Give him time ffs!

I don't even think he's going through that much of a rough patch. Played well in midfield up until last night. Even then he created some big chances.

It’s also strange that some fans complain “so and so isn’t playing with any confidence”, then loudly pile on.

Yes, everyone has a right to grumble, but it surely doesn’t help any player find their form. You’re just feeding the cycle imo.

People are desperate for a goal machine after Isak leaving - really that should have been Wissa.

Not that I'm saying he's on the same level but Bergkamp played a similar role for Arsenal and averaged around 8-9 goals a season.

We really need a goalscorer to take the heat off Nick as I just don't think he'll ever be prolific.

Either Wissa steps up or we look for a goalscorer in summer.
