Wallsendmag
Season is pretty much over now. We aren't making Europe and out of all the cups. Give the lad another run up front for the last 7 games and see if he can bang in a few goals, get his confidence up and finish on a high. Actually hoy Wissa in as well. Play the pair of them together and see how they do and if it looks like there's anything there to work with next season.

Rather Neave or Osula played instead of Wissa though.

I'm not a fan of his at all and he's looking like he's going to be another £55m flop alongside Elanga but there's nowt to lose in these last 7 games. We're basically just playing for prize money now. Give him a run. If he makes absolutely no impact look at just shifting him out and taking the hit in the summer.
OverThere
Play him up front and get the wingers to get down the line and cross the ball. He needs to not drop deep.
AyeDubbleYoo
The 'season is over' stuff is genuinely crazy. If we'd drawn or beaten Sunderland we'd only have 1/3 more points, would it be over then?
Deuce
Play Murphy on the right and have him whip balls at Woltemade’s noggin until he learns how to use it. edit: what OverThere said Edited March 24 by Deuce
AyeDubbleYoo
I feel like he'd benefit from narrow wingers playing off his feet than loads of crosses into the box. Actually why I always thought our selection (apart from Murphy) would work well with him.

I think it’s more that we’ve shown all season that we’re incapable of putting a good set of results and/or performances together in the league, especially the sort that’ll be required to finish in the European spots. We’ve been struggling to create chances all season, even before the fixture congestion back in August/September. Was the same paint by numbers football back then. Seen nothing to suggest that’ll change; on top of that the 3 home fixtures left are fixtures that Howe was won 3 times out of the last 10. It isn’t over like but I see why people feel that way. Haalands goals have dried up and his chances created has jumped since Pep moved to that formation.

He at least used to know how to do the latter.

Well, realistically, the seven points separating us from Europa is not insurmountable, but the fact is there are seven teams between us and that spot. They'd all need to shit the bed to varying degrees, and we'd have to get on a winning streak that I just don't see happening. I'm not giving up all hope, but we have such a narrow window it feels like too many things would have to fall our way.

We're 7 behind Liverpool but only 4 behind Brentford and Everton.

So I dont expect the likes of Tonali, Tino, etc to be busting a gut and maybe even Gordon, Bruno, Wolt, etc. If we still had a chance of CL qualification then possibly they'd be all in on pushing in the last 7, but not now I suspect. Does 7th definitely get Europe like? 5 wins from our last 7 (6 really as Arsenal away is a write off) gives us 57 points. That would have got us 9th last season. At a push it could get us 7th or 8th this season if Brentford and Everton slip begind their average PPG in the remaining games.

Just trying to be realistic, because besides Liverpool, Brentford and Everton, we're also behind Sunderland (gah), Chelsea, Fulham and Brighton. I'm with the lads to the end, but we need to do some soul searching as a team to find a lineup, formation and the level of effort we'll need to win probably 4-5 of the last 7 to pass all those (and still hope for losses and ties from all those above us). Hoping Bruno's return will help right the ship. Just want to see a strong finish to set us up for a positive summer. Europe at this point would be a (surprising) treat. Howay. HMSIllustrious
I‘m not too keen on conference league football to be honest. Loads of opposition teams that are hoping to prove something against us while their own appeal is pretty low (no offense). Not much to gain in terms of money or reputation but travel weariness and injuries could await us.

I think the competition would be good for the new signings we get over the summer especially the younger players. Also giving game time to Neave and other youngsters. Chelsea won the competition with just their kids only going full strength for final.

nufcjmc
At the very least we need to get used to playing more than once a week with limited training time if that has to be done in the "Lesser" of the European competitions then I am sure no one would complain if we managed to pick up another trophy to sweeten the deal further. While having next season with just the domestic stuff may help that seasons league campaign it just means the squad whoever is here at that point need to adapt a season later. The prize money may not be worth it but no doubt the extra home games and merch etc the club will do will help towards the bottom line.
Guillaume
I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but I just don't see where the confidence in us winning 5 from 7 and qualifying for Europe comes from. We've just lost home games to Brentford, Everton and the scum in the last few weeks. I find it hard to believe we'll even win 2 of the 3 remaining home games tbh.
