Crystal Palace 2-1 Newcastle United (12/04/26) | post-match from pg. 36

Eddie looks absolutely lost to me. He's run out of ideas and it shows. Lots of players letting him down too. An end of an era I'd say. As sad as it is to say, big changes are needed. Absolutely no idea who we could get to turn things around like and I'm not confident PIF know either.

That result for me has made me come to terms with it's time for a rebuild and a new manager to do so I think. I adore Eddie and he will go down as my favourite manager but I do think this is far as he can take the team

We spent £165m on 3 players sat on the bench today whilst we have Murphy on the wing.

3 weeks after the Sunderland game I really thought a reaction wouldn't be hard to get but the same performance and tactics. We watch Palace make 3 changes that change the game for them then we make changes far too late again.

To be sat 14th, 4 points behind Sunderland after spending £250m in the summer is just not good enough.

Yet another game where Tonali was painfully ordinary. The hype this guy gets is beyond absurd at this point. He's so basic man.

If Bruno had played today, we would have smashed this Palace side, who were clearly spent after their mid week action. But with Bruno out and the decision not to start Ramsey, Tonali just doesn't have the sort of influence someone with his reputation should do.

If any kind of sizeable bid comes in this summer, it has to be seriously considered.

Tonali has already checked out, but I do think he’s vastly overrated. Hopefully somone is prepared to give us a sizeable chunk for him. He should crawl through broken glass for this club after what they did for him, but don’t actually think he gives two fucks about the club.

It will be. But whether we get one based on performances like this is a different matter.

I thought he did alright and interlinked some play quite well.

If this was Football Manager, I'd want to build around Miley, Thiaw, Ramsey, Gordon and Hall. But realistically, we're not going to be trading 10 players. If we can get truly great value for Tonali, I wouldn't abhor it, but I do think he could flourish beautifully under a different system, so he's not first out the door at all.

I'd want to get cheap, young and hungry replacements for Willock, Murphy, Botman, Trippier, Barnes and Wissa as a priority. They won't generate much return financially. Wish we'd capitalised on Murphy after his wonder-stats season.

We are a fucking rotten team, we are so easy to play against and devoid of quality. A bad, stale mess of a squad, a manager who has ran out of ideas, absentee landlord owners and a CEO who thinks he can woo us with gimpy LinkedIn soundbites promising us the moon

I'm so incredibly unimpressed by him this season.

The result doesn't dictate game control. I take the point about losing points overall over the season - something that we've all blamed fatigue and game schedule for. I don't think that applies today like, that pen decision was a joke.

We didn't control the game at all, we had 1 clear cut chance which we scored, we were also playing a team who were sat below in the league who played 3 days earlier and rested their 3 best players, on top of that their manager is leaving at the end of the season. They won 1 In 10 home games in the league...

Regardless of the penalty it was a very poor performance.

That's kind of the problem. You can get that for £25 million. We paid damn near £60 million for this guy.

With Bruno out he should be taking charge in that midfield, especially against a Palace side that weren't even on top of us most of that game and were just happy to give us all the space and time in the world.

I think it's ridiculous how passive he is. Never driving forward with the ball, or trying to be more aggressive with his passing. Was just happy to jog around and play the simplest pass most game. I find him quite frustrating.

That's me as well. I don't think Tonali is top level tecnically tbh, but he's still a good player who gets about the pitch and puts a good shift in. I just don't think we'll get value for him if we sell, and we might end up spunking £50m on another pile of shit like we did in the summer.

Same old shit today.

The worst thing about it all is when the players and staff came over at the end, you can see they know it and Howe knows it, but depressingly they don't seem to have a scooby what to do about it

Anyone else think he picked Murphy just so he could have one of his collection of captains on the pitch?

Definitely not for his passing ability

The only teams below us are those in the relegation battle - that is an unacceptable drop in standards

Do we have any leaders on the pitch… I mean real, vocal leaders who talk, shout, coach and bollock where necessary… I think we just shite ourselves in the last 10 minutes of each match and we’ve absolutely no one to grab the game by the scruff of the neck…

Total lack of game management as usual…

I’d be happy with a couple who don’t give the ball away needlessly and on a constant basis.

It’s been surprising how little influence he exerts on the pitch this season. His dead-ball deliveries today were so poor today as well.

Botman pulling Lerma's shirt for absolutely no reason there whatsoever and giving him the chance to then throw himself to the floor, deserved the pen against him for sheer stupidity alone.

That’s what drove me insane watching that unfold. No reason to have a fistful of his shirt, lazy and brain dead defending.

Another aspect of this season thats mirroring 97/98.

Said at the start it would be like 97/98 this season, never imagining it would drop to these levels.

Defenders do it all the time tbh. It's just us that seem to get pulled up for it.

Looks so much better for Italy, even his dead ball play seems much more threatening. He’s a top player with complimentary players around him.

I'm not sure he does look better for them tbh.

There's a reason they have been struggling to get into tournaments of late. They seem to struggle with using the ball similar to what we do, and he certainly doesn't help improve things.

Antonio Cassano recently called him out and said he lacked quality and should be doing athletics, which was absolutely brutal.

He looked happy playing for Italy, his demeanour was totally different to when he plays for us
