Shearer was banned vs Barca (away) and Leverkusen (away) while Bellamy had additional game ban (Leverkusen, home).  Scored only his 3rd hat trick for us in the home game.

I think Kluivert was already being linked with us that night. He was class, but think the link was also why he got clapped.

Gerard also got clapped when they battered us 6-0 in 2013. Distinctly remember cos my dad was absolutely raging. I think that was also a dig at our players who’d been horrendous.

think Crouch got clapped on or off after a good England performance ?

Have a vague recollection of a Chelsea goal being clapped in late 90s. Feels like a long time since I’ve seen a goal clapped

I remember a Fulham goal by Gordon Davies, then being managed by MacDonald, being clapped at SJP. Ended 1-4 - they were superb that day.

i applauded De Bruyne's thunderbastard in off the bar effort the other year but not sure anyone else did

that inter game was an eye opener, sure they were 2-3 up inside 20 mins and ripped us a new arsehole with some great goals

EDIT - in these highlights their gaffer is just casually smerking a tab on the touchline :pimp:

They did first half after Bellamy was sent off, however we dominated the second half with ten men, with Solano especially being outstanding (yes the game was already won). Our first sight of Emre in that game also

There's empty seats in that Inter game too

the front rows were unoccupied if i recall to cater for the larger advertising boards for the champs league

i had to move from my usual seat to the gallowgate because of this

I was thinking that, but looks like more than just the two rows that have empties

i'm sure for the first stage there was hell on as ST had to buy a bundle, I feel like mine was £35 in the east paddock but thats a guess, which at over £100 for three seemed a lot at the time.

Wasn't sold out. Just over 50k there iirc. Think only Barcelona sold out and that wasn't until the day before the game. Only 48k at Juventus and 40k v Feyenoord, Kiev, Leverkusen.

People complained ticket prices were too high and back then ITV would have had the rights for the CL so would have been accessible to all.

It was similar in 1997 before the expansion, it was easy to get tickets on general sale, even for the Barcelona match.

Lee’s latest “exclusive” is that if we stay at SJP then they’ll look to make the Gallowgate end bigger.

What a waste of time that would be. All that money spent on what would be 7,000 cheap seats.

Would kill the atmosphere in the Gallowgate as well like it did in the Leazes.
