Lee’s latest “exclusive” is that if we stay at SJP then they’ll look to make the Gallowgate end bigger.

There’s no other stand they could realistically make any bigger given the East Stand is untouchable and Leazes and Milburn are already massive.

Is it feasible to make the Leazes and Milburn so high that they leave the atmosphere ?

Make the playing surface transparent and build a new stand underneath the ground, although the new stand will need beds instead of seats which will lower the capacity of it.

Rotate the whole thing 90 degrees so the pitch is vertical and give the players boots with suction cups instead of studs.  Sorted.

Clearly breaking an NDA by revealing NUFC’s very detailed plans, hope you’ve got a decent lawyer

Could lower the atmosphere. Or move the atmosphere to Beamish atom by atom.

Think this all hinges on how difficult they think it will be to get planning permission to build on a part of the Park, if they think it’ll get bogged down for years it might be an SJP rebuild.

Ive got no doubt from a purely financial view a new stadium is the preferred option now after Millers comments around the difference it would bring income wise.

They’ll present the 2 options and gauge the reaction of fans, but also the general public and conservation groups, if opposition is strong I think we might end up in a similar situation to the 90’s when the club just pull the plug on new stadium and we get a rebuild.

Any rebuild must include the Milburn/Leazes as well though, otherwise this once in a generation opportunity will be lost and the ground will be way off being best in class.

I'm surprised how many people are even considering what that bald prick says, he get's just about everything wrong. The decision will already have been made and they will just be tying loose ends up and contracts. You build at SJP you're not only going to see a reduced capacity, but also reduced revenue, which in the current market of PSR or whatever it's called now, would be a massive problem. Let's not even consider the likes of the strawberry and the Metro system, if (what that bullshitter says) they need to go across the road. It just doesn't make economical sense to go down that road.

As you said also, with it being quoted as a once in a lifetime opportunity, then all parts of the ground need to be upgraded, resulting in possibly more sections closed and lost revenue. I'm calling total bollocks

Yeah, he even says in his article that it would be a rebuild of SJP, and not just a new Gallowgate end. The Gallowgate wall though makes for a good story on a slow news day.

I’m still in the new stadium camp and hope they show more perseverance than Hall when the objectors get going, which I’m convinced they will if it’s Castle Leazes/Leazes Park.

I agree. There is no point putting lipstick on a pig, very expensive lipstick too that would not fundamentally move the revenue needle.

Any move that impinges a mm onto a park that no one actually cares about will get the green fannies and eco-warriors frothing at the gash to object and get in the papers claiming to be the saviours of Newcastle parks. Hopefully Ruben's have the balls to tell them to go frot themselves and stand up to the Council

This is it.

The Reubens will have all the legal expertise. The Saudi’s will have the money for the best legal challenges, and the political battle.

I firmly believe that they will have done their research on this, and asked the council what they would and wouldn’t accept.

They also have the benefit in knowing that there will be protestors coming as soon as the club announce anything.

John Hall likely just chanced his luck back in the 90’s, and didn’t do anywhere near as much research.

Knew they were using Hadrians Tower as an out of stadium hospitality area but looks like they're also using Fenwicks as well for Pre Match hospitality now.

This will be another area where SJP lets itself down as there simply isn't the room to have as many hospitality areas as is required these days.

Amazed me when I did the stadium tour years ago how narrow the Milburn Stand foot print is. You literally walk through the (old) main reception, through a door and there's the tunnel and the pitch right there. Such a narrow space and so limited in what they can do with it.

I would like to think it would be a discussion with the council about what benefits the city. Rather than a battle.

Surely Newcastle city council want the stadium in the centre, can't see them saying no to a proposal to build a new one next to SJP and turn the current SJP land into parkland, probably with added extras.

Yeah, exactly my thinking, especially since they can't afford to maintain the parks themselves.

Could be a good chance to extract some money from the developers like sometimes happens with shopping centres etc.

I’m not sure they’ll want more than 52,000 seats in the park land where SJP currently sits.

How many old people come to feed the ducks?
