Stifler
12 minutes ago, LFEE said: Disagree. It’s not much of a walk at all. (And I walk in from Gateshead Interchange most games) Google maps has it down as a 27 minute walk to Haymarket, compared with a 7 minute walk from SJP. Castle Leazes (next to the uni buildings) is a 14 minute walk. Considering a lot of busses stop at say 20 past, or half 10 at night (some might run after that but stop short of the usual route), you are not giving fans much chance of getting to the bus stations for example in that time. On top of that, all the fans will be going to Central station Metro station, meaning you would probably have to go to Gateshead to catch it before it fills up. Currently fans spread out to the different Metro stations after the match. If money really isn’t an issue, then they could easily enlarge the Metro station at SJP to have say 3 or 4 platforms, that would allow for more fans to use the the trains and have an increased service just after matches. You aren’t going to be able to do that at Central station. Edited January 11 by Stifler

Longer the walk more chance fans will have a stop off point and spend some money rather than heading straight home.

A 27 minute walk is no good for late KO’s though.

Hadaway Anyone not willing to walk 27mins to see the match send them my way. I know dozens and dozens of people who’ll walk over broken glass for a ticket. Karjala
The arena is a touch over a 10 minute walk from central station, 1km. If that's too far, then we might as well just stay at SJP. (Also 1km from central station). I totally agree that any new stadium has to be in the centre, and the arena is that.

I’m not trying to say people won’t, I’m trying to say the logistics of getting people out via public transport is more difficult due to bus time tables, and the fact that only 1 Metro station would be used instead of the 5 that are currently used. BottledDog
People really want a stadium in a ditch rather than a cathedral on the hill?! Give over.
Groundhog63
If we're being fanciful, why not build at the arena and extend the Metro line from St James to the Arens then away up the West End. Thank me later, x

They’d all be used just people would walk a bit further and I’m sure Nexus (conversations with club one of the few things confirmed) will probably run a later and more regular timetable on match days/nights. Shadow Puppets
Isn’t the Redheugh Bridge due some major structural work in the next few years (due to this concrete issue)? If so, the arena site would be a shitshow.

J7
Do people actually call it the Cathedral on the Hill? I’ve heard it before, but I thought it was more of a Geordie Nation type thing. The distance from the bus station is a wild reason against though. 😂 Our whole future decided on whether a handful of people can get the 10.20pm bus to Cramlington when we have a night match. The last train north at the moment is before 10pm.

Decky
The Arena site is a short walk from Central Station, surely that's more advantageous?

pedro111
God, imagine the day we get some news about the stadium? It's gonna be like when the takeover news broke isn't it? Not confident that day will ever come like !

Loads of people park down that way anyways. There’s a metro to Central and there’s still a line that runs behind it….could have its own stop and everything. Would a stadium fit though? I thought the arena site was ruled out because it’s earmarked for building and too small?

Newcastle has two cathedrals already.

The issue would be getting to the old Scotswood station from Central. Of course this would mean that the line would be a fair way away from the Fenhams and Chapel Houses of the world.
