Wouldn’t surprise me if they were drop feeding a “SJP renovation would be a bit shit and only a few more seats” line to the press to push people towards the new stadium option.

That’s absolutely the tactic. Much like the little bits they’ve dropped throughout the entire process.

I don’t disagree with the sentiment, but you do realise that hoping for ‘pay on the day’ in the modern PL world, is as likely as, well, something very unlikely.

Yeah unfortunately I do. But they are all wrong and I am right.

Didn’t someone at the club say January and then change it to March ?

Officially the club have always said Spring.

I thought it was "early 2025"? Although I can't remember where I read that.

"Early" could be anywhere from January to April tbf and would fit with Hope's "closer to the end of the season" line. I suppose every day between now and the end of the season is technically closer to the end of the season....

Early 2025 was from this:

Looking at pictures of Le Havres Stade Oceane with this so called "bubble wrap design", said to be one of the design suggestions.

Not a fan!

Just the KSS proposal, it doesn’t mean the club will opt for their option. I highly doubt they would, especially with a £4bn budget.

Quite funny how they’ve supposedly chosen KSS, experts in training grounds, for the stadium and chosen Populous, experts in stadiums, for the training ground.

I would prefer to stay - 100%, but I think for us to have a chance of competing we have to move

They haven’t chosen KSS. Both the headline and the article state that it is just their proposal and that they are 1 of many architecture groups providing proposals.

New stadium for me and nowt to do with PSR, though that’s clearly a bonus.

The current stadium has seen its day, bolting on an extension whilst largely having to leave the East Stand in its current guise and two dated lop sided stands with poor views, would seem massively underwhelming and an opportunity of a lifetime for the city missed.

I suspect they’ll make the new stadium option much more attractive to sway opinion, providing the finance is actually there to spend 2/3 billion on a new stadium, a half measure such as another tier on the Gallowgate smacks of hedging their bets and won’t be game changing if the ambition is really to challenge the elite.

Does anyone know how Everton have allocated the seating for their new stadium?

Have they allocated a 'singing section' or anything?

They’ve ran some thing where you get to choose your seat in order of how long you have had your season ticket. Something like that.

Surely if we stay at SJP they'll completely gut and modernise it.

There’s nowt much they can do with the East Stand due to Leazers Terrace

There’s a Metro line not far from the back of the Gallowgate that limits potential of that stand

Where do we play whilst construction is happening

Can we cope financially with a huge reduction in capacity & revenue whilst we build on the existing site, it’ll fuck us over even more on PSR (yawn)

These are just some of the issues with gutting and modernising at SJP

I just can’t see how it’s a an option, unless we’re only adding a few thousand seats

Totally this! We’re getting a new stadium, the latest  leaks confirms it

Likewise.  PSR is the cold part of it - I’d love a new stadium for all the reasons you’ve outlined.  Like 100k others in 1996, I was happy to get a new ground then and I’d be happy this time.  Friends of Leazes Park last time had to go to Sunderland to get decent numbers for their petition.

To do that they’d have to close it. To close it you’d have to reduce capacity. To reduce capacity you’d reduce your income. You reduce your income you reduce your PSR headroom. You reduce your PSR headroom you reduce your ability to sign players and so on…

Huge opportunity for the city or not, I expect Newcastle City Council planners, Freeman of the City, and local NIMBY groups to cause extensive delays or even force us to remain at St James.

Nimby’s possibly. The Freeman and Council were all for the new stadium in Leazes area late 90’s.

I swear Douglas writes the same two articles every month. One about the stadium, one about PSR and transfers and now the next window will be different.

I don’t think I’ve seen him get a single thing right

If it is that we are moving I at least want something unique, something that hasn’t been done before.

I don’t like any of the new stadiums that I’ve seen built. Been to City and Arsenal numerous times and recently went to Spurs for the first time. Not for me at all.
