Bizza
Probably Isn't there a Sports Direct tarp over the center circle before kickoff? Maybe it left a mark with the frost? Or maybe we're about to have the tackiest center circle in the world. This, not intentional. Lets just hope it hasn't given him any ideas.
Guest thenorthumbrian
Whether Labour (hooray) or Lib dem (ho hum) well done all the Newcastle City councilors for uniting behind St James Park.

Ketsbaia
But isn't the land still called St James' Park? It's in the address. Surely the media can't be prevented from calling it that, if it's technically right.
AyeDubbleYoo
Think is, the media don't really have any reason not to use the new name, other that it might wind us up. And they may or may not care about that.
Guest Geordiesned
Just been on Tyne Tees News about this. Big thumbs up to the council.
Dave
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-16656754 The BBC said in a statement: "As of 10 November, the Sports Direct Arena became the official name for the ground as chosen by the club. "It is not the BBC's place, as an impartial public broadcaster to decide or debate on whether this is correct or not, rather to report on the matches which take place on the field. "Changing the way we display the graphics or refer to the ground on our programmes ensures consistency with every other ground which has a sponsor, be it new grounds that came with a sponsor like the Emirates, or old grounds that have changed their names like Bradford City's Coral Windows Stadium (formerly Valley Parade)." Tossers.
Dave
On Bradford's homepage on the BBC Sport website I found this article from August: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2011/08/guy_branston.html The west Yorkshire club have finished 10th, ninth, 14th and 18th since their relegation to the bottom tier in 2007. Both Stuart McCall - another club legend - and Peter Taylor failed to build a winning team at Valley Parade, but Jackson is determined to arrest that sustained trend of mediocrity and wants Branston to make sure that a youngish squad understands the importance of grinding out results during a long season. It's been the Coral Windows Stadium since 2007. Weird.

Dave
I sent another complaint to point out their hypocrisy and got this: Thank you for contacting us about our response regarding the reference to the Sports Direct Arena in our programmes. We believe that we have explained the reason as to why we refer to Newcastle United’s ground as the Sports Direct Arena and therefore we have nothing more we can usefully add. If you wish to pursue this complaint, you can contact Neil Land within 20 working days, and he will carry out an independent investigation. AyeDubbleYoo
I would have thought we should let the inconsistencies go, surely it's the best chance of it not being called the SDA all the time?

madras
Not really, I posted another example which is a match report just like that. and the graphic doesn't say that, sometimes it will sllip through. i've heard St Jme's Park used loads still on the radio, can't really say I've heard it called anything else, even heard it called Gallowgate more than sports direct.
