Shearer express opinion shocker - on Bellamy

Former Newcastle captain Alan Shearer has urged his club not to bring Craig Bellamy back to St James' Park.

Wales striker Bellamy, who had a disappointing first season with Liverpool and has been tipped to leave Anfield, has been linked with a return to Newcastle, where he and Shearer once formed a strike pairing.

Although the duo were relatively successful on the pitch, Shearer was not impressed by Bellamy's exit from the club following a bust-up with manager Graeme Souness.

And former England striker Shearer admits he was stunned to discover new Magpies boss Sam Allardyce might be interested.

'Has no-one learnt their lesson about signing Craig Bellamy?' Shearer said.

'If only (Liverpool boss) Rafa Benitez had rung me I would have told him exactly what he was like. I hope there isn't anything in (the Newcastle reports).

'I was having a few days away in France with (former Newcastle team-mates) Gary Speed and Steve Harper and the wives and I picked up the newspaper. I was having a fantastic day.

'But when I read Bellamy for Newcastle I thought I would definitely have to have another drink. I had several.'

The best of it is he can say things like that now because he doesn't play for us. In fact he's paid to give his opinion.

Bellamy must be a propa bell end like.

Think you will find that old age (by a footballers standards) and injuries cost Shearer that as much as anything. Bellamy helped him and he helped Bellamy. Good front pairing and on that score both have noted the others strengths. Bellamy isnt, never has been, never will be in the same league as Shearer as a player though.

Not sure if that story has any credibility but after the comments at the Fed it wouldnt surprise me if he has just got caught off guard.

No great surprise to find out that Bellamy wasnt popular with his teammates. He is a complete prick. Really hope we dont go near the little shit.

Which makes it all the more strange that, a few months before Bellamy was booted out, he and Shearer were on holiday together.

This ain't your problem any more, Alan. If you wanted to be the manager, you should have applied.

 Not a chance. Shearer would never have got 15 league goals, he could have been playing with Henry and he still wouldn't have. I liked Bellamy but the argument that he carried Shearer while he was here just isn't right. For one thing, he was in and out the team like a bad porno.

Not sure managers say that sort of stuff to the press. He has as much right to express an opinion on this as you and I, and nobody here knows more about the club or past players than him. Yet we do it. Why shouldnt he?

I'd trust Alan Shearers word over Bellamys any day though.

I did think it was amusing that one mans opinion was that another shouldnt have an opinion.

he will always have massive ties to the club no doubt he embassador role for the club will still continue under new rule. He played when bellers did so I really do think his opinion counts and first and foremost he is a fan of the club and obviously wants us to do well. Now we all know he cant stand the lil shit and if one of the press ask him about speculation to do with him returning what sort of reponse do you expect??

A few more quotes from Shearer in this one. Must be where they got it from.

Slightly off topic but this one stood out.

"I have just finished my badges so I could go into management now if I wanted to, but why should I? There is only one place I am going to go when I do it, so I just wanted to enjoy some time out."

On Gullit after the Sunderland game...

"Next day I decided I was going to confront him. I got there, burst through the door, and there's Big Dunc sat there and he had already tore strips off him. But the day after, he was gone. I actually thought he was a good coach. His sessions were very good and made a lot of sense but the man-management was very poor."

On Keane moving to the North-East...

"I put one of my houses up for sale for £750,000 and he came to look at it and it went up to £6m when I found out it was him."

The likes of me offering an opinion on a player that the Newcastle manager is looking at isn't the same as Alan Shearer offering an opinion. Shearer has influence with the fans and the press, and coming out with this view is going to put some kind of pressure on the manager. If Allardyce really is weighing up a move for Bellamy, I think he'd be quite annoyed at Shearer's intervention. If Shearer is that worried, why not just pick up the phone and call Allardyce? Coming out with it in public is a clear attempt to stir things up.
