With Butt's ability to pass the ball away EVERYTIME he gets the ball, how can you even place him on the bench? Barton and Emre, or Faye and Emre in CM for me. Barton has been terrible and is going to prison , Emre is too lightweight and isn't consistent, Faye is needed in defence.... Butt gets it by default for me. Of course we need better, but we don't have better available. Faye could cover the defence excellent in a midfield position. Also where we lack most is at corners/freekicks into our area, where he will be as an DM. We need huge bastard to win those balls, unless most strikers could get hatricks against us..

i wouldnt play butt in centre unless we have no other option. The man gives away the ball way to much to weigh it up for his defensive qualities. The last games his passing hs ruined alot of our attacking. Specially he seems to trough and put Duff trough with one pass alot, that just ends up being an sloppy easy ball for the defence.

Geremi's set-pieces was excellent in my opinion. Could offer us something deffo.

I only go back to the 70s, but 90% of todays players appear to have SO little genuine football ability, they would be unlikely to get into reserve teams from those days. There is this "automatic" assumption made by many people (mainly the young-uns who have 'nowt' to compare it to!) that MODERN IS BETTER / NOW IS BETTER. Whereas the reverse is usually true!! Todays players are "fitter" / "eat better" / "drink less" / "run a bit faster" . . but better?? - FAR from it! He's good at tackling, his timing and everything is spot on as is his ability to read the game (from a defensive point of view). With the ball though he's just wank, like two different players. Against Boro, he gave the ball away sooooooooooo much with piss poor passing.
