Given the state of our finances and our current defence then it's a canny move for us and him. Could well turn out to be a bit of a liability but we need the bodies and his experience might help a few of the younger lads. Let's wait and see how he does.
-
or maybe wait for him to come back and if he doesnt want to re-sign on a fair enough contract then hopefully someone will buy him in january ? eoither way its all in his favour and there seems little the club can do beyond offering him too much. The club should have sorted this out ages ago. If he walks away for nothing, how much will it cost us to replace him? A £4m player? plus a canny signing on fee an substantial wages? Far better to to give Taylor what he thinks he's worth and move him on in a year or two. It'll work out cheaper in the long run imo. if the club gave him big wages 2 years ago, with sooo long left on his contract people would have slagged it off, if they done it last season in the championship they'd have got slagged off.....no win really. At least they'd have been pro-active and shown a bit of foresight. Let's just do f*** all and see him walk away for nowt though. That'll be the best decision. Do absolutely nothing then attempt to replace him by spending buttons. Fantastic way to run the club into the ground. so given the last 2 years as shown above what would you suggest ? i'm pretty sure theres a deal waiting for him. how much should we offer him ? Depends what he's asking for. I've got no way of knowing tbh. shut up and got to bed then. All I know is that him seeing his contract out and walking away for nothing is the worst-case scenario. Paying over the odds on wages or moving him on now are preferable. Whether you agree or not is pretty much up to you mate, couldn't really give a fuck. Night night.

We need to either sign him up or move him on. If that mean offering him £15k a week more than he's worth then so be it. I think someone would pay up to £6m or £7m for him and we can't afford not to cash in when that bid comes in.
-
on the other hand if no decent bids have came in and the player is willing to conduct talks.......what should they do ? Offer a good contract to a decent defender and pay over the odds until someone is interested enough to make a decent bid.
-
Not doing himself any favours though. Agree totally btw, but he was given his chance and, pretty much, blew it by fumbling it over the line.
-
Should have been sorted out months ago, one way or the other. To allow him to walk away for nothing would be criminal. Far from his biggest fan but the club should have assessed the situation and employed a modicum of fucking foresight and either cashed in on him or tied him up on a new deal. Fucking incompetent amateurish wankers.
-
If we sold him we'd be lucky to get a million quid for him. As poor as he's looked when he has played, I'd rather have him looking interested and motivated as an extra million quid in the bank. It's a hell of a long-shot for this lad to work out and contribute but he must have something to be capped at U-21 level for the World and European Champions.

Doesn't mean much though does it? Every single person on earth knows none of that lot are going to be within 30 points of the league winner so whether we're 200/1 or 250/1 doesn't mean too much in reality. A bad start to the season and the odds on us to go down will drop like a stone.

City aren't finished spending yet and Spurs have barely even started. Liverpool will overhaul Villa but will have to have some serious luck with injuries to finish 4th. Chelsea Man Utd Man City Arsenal Spurs Liverpool Villa

Very good signing and kudos for Hughton for getting the lad. Not expecting the earth from him but if he's got a working pair of legs then he's already above Smith in the pecking order. A bit of graft in the middle of the park and him getting from box to box for the full 90 will be like a breath of fresh air. Looking forward to seeing him play.

They're stockpiling players this season so when the new financial regualtions come in they've already got players they can ship out to fund any new faces they need, thus breaking even(ish). Any club would do the same, the price of a player is irrelevant for them.
-
The shirt itself isn't special but some of the blokes who've worn it certainly are/were. Agree withe the idea that the main striker of the club should get it regardless of their 'standing' against the likes of Milburn and Shearer.

Blef and CP sitting in a tree, K I S S I N G.

This also probably means that they won't be signing Mensah from Lyon then.
-
If you can't cope with pressure/expectation then you're not a very good player. He had too many good/decent games to be called a shit player though. People tend to forget the times when he was solid and unspectacular. But as you say, he simply can't deal with any pressure and is always going to be a bit of a liability. Glad he's signed for that lot.
-
There's a positive correlation to the pressure/expectation from the fans and his fuck-up's. Average player who crumbles when the heat's on.
-
The Number 9 shirt should be given to the main striker at the club at that time. That happens to be Carroll at the minute so I've not got a problem with it at all. It will always represent the state of the club at the time and the fact that it's now Andy Carroll speaks volumes about where we are as a club at the minute. This is where we are so let's just get on with it. Best of luck to the lad.

Must have bought perch with crates of pigeon breasts. Bought with the cash saved from Butt fucking off.
-
Cracking signing. Had it been 2005ish.
-
Win or lose? Is this a real question? Erm, win please.
-
Can't really blame Hughton for doing everything he can to stop the opposition playing. We were never going to come into the league and start knocking it about and playing possession football because we're blatantly not good enough to do it. Next season is going to be small ball. Set-pieces, direct football, corners and percentage football. Keep the games tight and win 8 or 9 of them at home and we should be safe. It's not going to be pretty but we have to stay up and if shortening the pitch is going to do that then it's fair enough imo.

To be fair, it's not the worst bit of advice, is it?
