    Mike Ashley

Keegan left because the harsh reality of being a football manager hit home, he was happy when money was being thrown at him by the board yet when it came down to balancing books like every other manager in the league had to at the time he didn't want any of it, he's been the same everywhere else too. like i've posted earlier re cole selling etc ? He sold Cole because he wanted Ferdinand and Gillespie, QPR f***** the club around though so we had to wait until the summer, he spent £14 million that summer, £11 million around the January and broke the World record transfer fee the following summer. £40 million in a little over 12 months was never heard of in English football at the time so don't make out he had it hard because he didn't. yes and like i've said after dropping to sixth and selling cole, facing the fans on the steps of SJP you'd think that was more pressure than that under which he left ?

  3. Exactly what i wanted to say, he's very highly rated and i don't expect Rennes to sell him for anything less than 5m. Would be more than that, Pompey were in for him in the summer but were put off by an asking price of £7Million. asking price has nothing to do with the real price........you know that

Owen would flourish playing alongside Carew. Unfortunately, he plays for us. Unfortunately for us, he's always either injured or not fully fit. why would our player who is always either injured or not fully fit flourish alongside your player who is either always injured or not fully fit ? Their combined injury woes would open the door for the worst ever strike partnership. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Shola Ameobi and Marlon Harewood. some newly promoted prem club will have that strike force 2009-10

  6. butt has experience playing there with man utd.means nowt Of course it means something becasue Butt has been on most occasions excellent for us when he has been in the team. So experience must be worth something! so if butt has been on most occasions excellent for us why put a centre half in for him ? For the sake of the thread if i had to pick one of the defenders i would have Faye. I would play Butt with Barton if we had other midfielders out like Geremi and Emre. i'd have butt and barton even if geremi and emre were fit I would rather have Barton and Emre at home and then play Butt and Barton in away matches to help out the defence. but it's not just about a central 2 as they'll look better with the right 2 outside them making the right runs etc,the right ful backs doing similar and finding space, the right forwards etc

if you want to get in a better player for a worse player you'll normally have to pay the difference. I dont think there is a big enough difference in quality between Crouch and Ameobi to pay out 4 mill+ for. I didn't say that! Anyway i'm taking it you did so: The difference between them two is massive, double that at least, Crouch is a useful footballer, Ameobi has yet to prove that, and has used up 80% of his time to do so.
  9. btw i think Shearer would of made a great centerhalf i know he wouldn't have I dunno, that tackle on Sol Campbell was a beauty. i watched him too many times lunging and doing forwards tackles and he couldn't mark someone, far too physical in the way that forwards get away with more than defenders

  15. Well, FWIW, I think that Zogs and Milner should have started, but having said that I thought that Emre and Geremi had both played wide at their previous clubs? (I picked that up from what others have said, not really sure how accurate it is) playing emre wide (pretty sure he's played there before for us) could have made sense as what is the point of getting wide and slinging in crosses for the like of owen/martins, sure they can get headers but it's not the best plan of attack,so emre could look to drag inside instead and play the defence splitting passes we were all told he's bring with him a couple of years ago....however the teams tactics appeared to be "stop them scoring and hope to nick one", away at the top 4 maybe but not reading/derby. even when we had possession the first priority was "how do we defend this position",tell you what allardyce, if we give them something to worry about they may not attack as much or as freely.
  16. was the "yet again" really necessary ?
  17. I'm not trying to be a member of the forum police but that is hard on the eye although it might just be me struggling at this time of day. he could be right but the enrique ball to martins is a well executed decent tactic provided it isn't overdone so it loses the ability to catch teams off guard. i've been calling for martins to be used in this manner for a while. for example i'd play passes in blind for the first 15mins between full back and centre half to push the defence back and get them turning but martins has to read it and chase.

  19. Where's HTT when you need him? grafting hitzfeld faces onto toy sharks.
  20. this thread seems to be along the lines of those from yonks back suggesting putting shearer at centre half.
  21. technique is necessary before both.

    Nicky Butt

how do you work out it's the easiest position ? he play's as a holding midfielder not an out and out centre midfielder So why, if it's the easiest position, does Celestine Babayaro play left back? because he is a left back but why is it easier, you'd think him being the holding midfielder (which he isnt really as he's got forward as much as the other centre mids we've played this season...poss exception of barton)would give him more responsibility and the other midfielder differing responsibilities.

it's not his game that gets changed it's the games of others that affect what he can do in his game, just like those who slagged off batty for only passing sideways or backwards, when you only have ian rush up front being marked by 3 defenders you have to pass that side or back to retain possession

it's not so much he's useless at passing the ball, more that away from home we provide so little going forward there is no-one to pass to,no movement etc and butt is the only midfielder really looking to take the ball off the defenders. that was the problem when he first came and he got slaughtered off many fans.he ends up trying to play a game that isn't his cos the team around him aren't doing anything.
