That's the key. THey played outstandingly well. They had real confidence in their play. Some of the knocks about the park they made ... especially the way they set up the Elani chance that Shay saved well near the start ... showed such class. We can't grumble. We've been beaten by a better side. We can also talk about our team getting to know each other better, but Man City had the same scenario, and only a little bit longer. thought Smith looked totally off the boil in midfield today. i dont think they played that well, we played 3 in the middle to try and stifle elano(but didnt put anyone on him !?) which left petrov one on one with beye and to be fair petrov only looked dangerous(frighteningly mind) when on the break. when we had the ball why didn't one of the midfield 3 make a break to play off viduka(again butt was trying to do in the last 30mins when the other 2 should be the more likely candidates)? why when it was obvious petrov was loving having no midfielder to block his approach to beye didn't we go 4-4-2 ? wullie--emre was ready to come on at 2-1 but they scored while he was waiting to come on,even then it was too late. the midfield 3 looked as lost as to who should be doing what as robsons centre back 3 did when he tried to play 3-5-2. viduka can be lethal, our team have learned to play the ball to his body or feet (took 5 games mind) now we have to learn to get midfielders running off him .

i managed to get great goal and poor control in half way up the page,he did show fantastic control for his goal, that doesn't mean his control is largely iffy
-
so bye bye 4-3-3. i'm not joining any allardyce out movement but i blame him directly for the defeats at citeh and derby.
-
quickly scrolled down this page as i wasn't going to read the the full thread, then i saw NE5 and mick, i thought to myself "they aren't are they ?".... well ask a bloddy stupid question !
-
great goal then a poor miss, control still iffy, still unsure if he looks like he can form a partnership with someone.

The date of the name change from the "First Division" to the "Premier League" is an arbitrary date from which to start your statistical comparisons. It is a 'much beloved' date for some people. Often these are people who think that football was invented in 1992, and was invented by Sky! I am not saying that you are one of those, but there are plenty of them around, and this is just pandering to their seeming beliefs. The game has a lot more money in it now and the formation of the Premier League helped in this, but it would probably have happened anyway (unfortunately, in many ways). There was no tangible difference between the last season of The First Division and the first season of the Premier League - so why do you start your analysis at that arbitrary date? Normally people would look back and analyse issues over (say) the "last ten years" or the "last twenty years", or the last 30, 40, or 50, or whatever. Often mentioned, but I have yet to see anyone like this. Seems simply a stock insult tbh. Take it you don't watch Sky then? *winky thing* only to see if xenu's coming

So by that we were a success under KK ? I wouldn't say we were I'd say we were close but won nothing. I don't just mean this season I mean generally and as such I say the only way to be a success is to win something. more of a success than a team who finishes 1 place above relegation but wins a cup. poor teams can win cups, poor teams don't do well in the league.
-
did that come over right,i mean i'd rather we finished 4th this season than finished 5th with a carling cup win, even FA cup win for that matter. No, I took it as cake & eat it. As a one season gimmee I'd rather win the Carling Cup than qualify for the Champs League; we'd still be in the Uefa Cup & have more chance of doing well in that. by getting in the champs lge once you stand more chance of becoming regulars in it,like it or not we need that more than anything else.

everton shirley ? LOL yes it is Everton, I was told by me mate on the phone it was Liverpool, he said it was in the Journal, just looked and it is Everton. thank fuck, liverpools not till november

everton shirley ?

That needs a little perspective. I'd rather win the Carling Cup & finish out of the relegation zone than finish 2nd in the league. I'd rather finish 2nd in the league on a regular basis than win the Carling Cup & finish out the relegation zone. For where we are now I'd love to win the Carling Cup. As to the question the simple answer must be silverware & top 6 finishes. i'd rather finish 2nd than win the carling cup and finish 5th. f*** it,i'd rather finish 4th than finish 5th and win the carling cup. did that come over right,i mean i'd rather we finished 4th this season than finished 5th with a carling cup win, even FA cup win for that matter.
