  1. Shola,Given,Harper? well at anfield it would be one of theirs but any sort of charity game would do. looking at omens. that was our pre season line up 93-94
  2. all away, hartlepool workington berwick rangers gateshead scunthorpe then try and get a testimonial game fixed up at anfield maybe.
  3. i see, so they cant slag us off but its ok if they lick our arses. did you see many of the posts in here last season (last few seasons actuaslly) about the lack of noise. that piece is as much a work of fiction as the ones you deride so much. A fair description is "licking our arses" ? ? ? You get your jollies by tugging your forelock and grovelling "Another kick sir ? I'm not worthy" ? Hardly the first time you can't see the wood for the forest, madras. You were one of those most desperate to call media abuse "tongue in cheek" weren't you ? So no surprise you have your view, now is it ? i said one article was a back handed compliment, as did some others, how good of you to turn it into my world view, thanks for that. i'll tell you how i get my jollies....by reading each article and then making my mind up rather than looking for anti-nufcisms. there have been particularly gushing articles about the club this season, mainly the fans, some slagging the club off, mainly for off the field stuff, and mainly nuetral on the pitch, ie we've been winning but not playing well till recently........it's not too far off a mirror of this board except some have the opinion that the press shouldn't be critical, only the fans should be. don't be too worried about the stereotyping as they are difficuilt to avoid, we stereotype mackems. scouers and mancs are, with us the most stereotyped because we are the most visible due to our numbers. ask other fans about us and they'll say about the off the field mess (largely true) and the fans, the spiteful ones will say about expectations and thinking we deserve success (much like we in our spiteful moments say man utd fans are all from the south etc. for those comparing footy journalism, widen your view, fans of most clubs are saying it and it has spread beyond the world of fotball. the press in general is travelling backwards at a rate of knots i've never seen before (and personally i think the inetrnet , for good and bad is the reason). edit.....lets have a closer look at that article that you wish more articles were like....... fill their ground and make a noise........well we get big crowds but make a noise ? when we score perhaps and many have had a go at the lack of atmosphere over the last feew years. attractive passing game.......well in our last half dozen home games maybe but till then it wasn't what many would call an attractive passing game. and even he says we bring colour by open civil war, 20 man brawls etc. Deary me. Touch a nerve by any chance ? A bit rich you lecture me, and then talk about your own view being respected. By all means have your own opinion of what is - according to your own view. Its not necessarily the correct one. Nor is it any different for me. Thats the strange thing about opinions - you see the same thing and end up with opposing views. Its why religion is so loathsome. You will see negatives and try to tell yourself (successfully, obviously) to look between the lines for reasons that simply aren't there. I see negatives for what they are. I see positives for what they are - in black and white, so to speak. No grey areas sometimes, maybe. That would be a fair criticism. We are our own worst enemies. Of course we bloody are. Thats a given, for Chrissakes. Then, who isn't ? When things are going wrong, the complaints start at every club. We are no different and no worse. Only difference being, the press (or at least a significant number) glorified in our demise, and before a ball was kicked this season, the mockery, and schadenfreude (if ever a word was created for just this situation....delightened this reporter used it) against the club, but most paticularly the fans was appalling, and unforgivable. Because you chose to ignore it isn't a bad thing at all. Sensible in some ways. But I won't. And would like to know why the rags do what they do. I find it really baffling. By all means tell yourself it ain't so Joe ! Sadly it is so - and you won't need to wait too long for the next example, either. where do i say about my view being respected...first off based on my posts you reckon you "have me pegged" or words to that effect, then you ascribe a world view based on my thoughts on one article, then you make up what i say. look phil you think we are a special case to the media and they single us out for special hate treatment because of who we are, i think it would happen (and did happen to leeds) to any high profile club that drops like we have. it doesn't help that the piece you post as a good peice was as bad as the others but on the arselicking side. brummie had his say, i wonder what the other non-nufc'ers on here think ? oh by the way phil , did you slag off the coverage during keegans firsts first stint as manager ?
  4. Can i just say, if we're depending on a few core players like Harper, Nolan and Carroll then we're f**ked. That article isn't informative in the least. Actually, i might doing it a disservice, he's writing for the broader public not diehard Newcastle fans who know the realities. Not going to go into the merits or not of the players you mention - I don't see them as often as you lot do - but surely, for any team which is newly promoted, you have to do precisely that - pick a core group of players, and rely on them. The alternative is assembling an entirely new nucleus to your squad, which is just infeasbile - both in terms of the time you have got to do it (especially with a World Cup in the summer distracting the usual business of football transfers) but also in terms of how much it would cost (unless you're Man City). Surely the clever thing to do is pick one or two areas where you can improve, at a decent price, and do that? No point throwing the baby out with the bath water. our core should be the defence rather than the spine of the team. theres been massive questions over the central midfield all season at this level.
  5. why did i think larson was about 29 ?
  6. anderlecht for tonight. then kaiseslautern/millwall/twente for tomorrow.

  8. ladbrokes had me at 4/7 to be first. sorry.
  9. so you're a dick huggan. oh come on, everybody else was thinking it.
  10. a couple of things here.......... sunderland used to play a pre season friendly with norwich for the friendship cup or some such. in germany apparently bundesliga teams have another side that they are friendly with and often have the half and half scarves.
  11. I think most people understood what you were getting at. i knew most knew i was joking but they knew the what i was referring to.

  13. why no top with the broad white band down the front 70's style....that would win the vote.
  14. was going to keep off tonight but i've gone wolfsburg/liverpool.
  15. kettlebrough and b-more understand.
  16. Villa - higher profile maybe, but as it's made up with mostly NEGATIVE, I'm sure Villa fans wouldn't be as "chagrined" as you may think. Liverpool - you're falling into that rag-induced mentality about Liverpool fans - that they "deserve" success because they've been successful ! You keep talking about profile - theres negative and positive. While other clubs will get a bit negative - John Terry Chelsea, and er...not a great deal else, apart from a brief couple of days when Gerrard attacked someone, was up in court, then forgotten in the rags. How often have the other clubs been set up ? Can't think of one off hand. Whereas US - The directors cut, the shennaigans in a London hotel etc etc etc drag on for weeks. Hughton really annoyed them by not playing ball over the Taylor/Carroll business. Doesn't stop them keep trying to kick start it though does it ? A positive profile from the rags would make a nice change. Don't hold your breath waiting for it. watch how they'll kick liverpool if they go through some of what we have (and its a distinct possibility). did you forget about when we were doing well and they were licking our backsides, they gave leeds a kicking aswell when they were going through shit. if a club with a high profile does poorly (and seemingly tries to harm itself like we did ie truly terrible PR) then thats what they'll do, it's not because it's NUFC, it's because we are a fallen big beast and would happen to the others similarly.
  17. i see, so they cant slag us off but its ok if they lick our arses. did you see many of the posts in here last season (last few seasons actuaslly) about the lack of noise. that piece is as much a work of fiction as the ones you deride so much.
  18. Have you been to Fulham, great little club, fantastic stadium but you are never going to achieve much. Dangle the prospect of managing in front of 52,000 fans and saying he has full control over the football side would tempt him. Any manager with ambition would know that if he had full control of the football side of things at the club and did well that the possibilites are endless. If not him there would be others, Im sure of that! As things stand, Fulham are a bigger club than us. He wouldn't leave for anyone, let alone Newcastle. Wrong - as things stand, Fulham are CURRENTLY a more successful club ; they haven't won as many trophies, haven't got anything LIKE the stadium of fanbase, haven't been in European football as often...this is a worse statement than if someone had tried to claim that NUFC were a bigger club than Liverpool back in 1993 simply because we had a better team spirit at the time. Fulham will NEVER be a bigger club than Newcastle United - just as we will never be a bigger club than Man U. The issue about Hodgson is really nothing to do with the relative size of the clubs - he is not a young man and is unlikely to want to have the task of taking over a club like NUFC, although I very much doubt he will be given the chance. Newcastle = Newly promoted side, big expectations, alot of deadwood still remains in the team. Fulham = Established top half side, playing European football, decent playing side. That's how a manager sees it. They don't go "ooo that's a big ground'" or "Well they've won more trophies than that team in the last 100 years". Whether Hodgson is 18 or 80, he won't touch 'the poisoned chalice' when he's doing so well at Fulham. Why else have our last few managers included Graeme Souness, Glenn Roeder, Sam Allardyce and Joe Kinnear? ...so why did Shankly leave a comfy post to join a run-down Liverpool ? Simply because he could see that the potential was much better than where he was and that is EXACTLY why a decent manager would join NUFC. The reason why we have had all the names you mentioned as manager is because Shepherd had made such a mess of everything and our name was mud after the way he treated SBR ; in the case of Kinnear, you only need to be able to recall events with Ashley/Wise etc 18 months ago to see why we got HIM. We would not attract a top manager right now because there is too much uncertainty surrounding Ashley's ownership and running of the club - if we were taken over by a major concern run by the likes of Makhtoum there are very few managers in the game who would turn the job down. Sorry, but they DO look at things like the stadium, support base and financial standing when deciding to join a club and in the circumstances I have described, we would be looking at bigger names that Hodgson. As things stand, the club has little choice but to persist with Hughton AND give him the proper support in the market ; if the club struggles after that, they will have to look at replacing him because relegation once more would be a disaster. if southend were to be taken over by the makhtoums theres very few managers would say no.

    Messi

I know you're probably joking, but Ronaldo, do you think Rooney is better than Messi? No. I dont even think Rooney's better than Drogba. For all the talk of Rooney's über-season there's a big chance that Drogba will end up piping him to the top goalscorer award. thats down to goals alone. my opinion purely but rooney has been better than drogba overall this season...........................and messi is getting close to joining the cruyff's, pele's,beckenbaur's,maradona's of this world.

Kluivert Why didn't you keep him? Did he want to leave, or was it the club's decision? I followed him in the year he played for you and I thought he did reasonably well given the clueless managing. he couldn't be arsed.
  21. as i understand it there was a conspiracy. there were two teammates positioned near the weights room and one at the treatment room, no cover was provided outside the ice bath, why ? outside two fans saw a security guard pushing people away, this security guard has never been identified, why ?. this gave the space for Mr Taylor to be hit from the side and to the left...FROM THE SIDE AND TO THE LEFT! Mr Geordie of Blaydon races saw a man run away from the area with strange hair, this man has never been traced, why ? the geordie public has yet to see the x-rays of the injury, why ? there was a set up from the highest level, this was a public execution covered up by individuals way up the line up to and including chris hughton and mike ashley.
