How can you not say if it would be a conflict of interests until it actually comes up? What happens if Newcastle and Rangers both qualify for the UEFA Cup, you go "Ah, that's not allowed - you've got two weeks to reorganise the ownership of one or both clubs?" How can this be seen as only a hypothetical situation? If it looks like we're both going to qualify and that might cause problems, it is not going to potentially end up being beneficial for Ashley to make us lose games so his favoured club definitely gets the spot? And if we're then seen as deliberately folding to clubs who still have a chance of winning the league or whatever, how is that fair on their rivals?
