  1. I read them as potentially ditching Barton and vetoing transfers due to age. Maybe you need to re-read it. Maybe I do, perhaps you could help me by explaining what the bits I've bolded mean? Terminating Bartons contract is hardly dictating transfer policy (as per your statement "Is dictating the transfer policy as alleged in this report (eg ditching Barton and vetoing transfers due to age) not interfering with the manager's duties?") as much as it is common sense and perhaps even a contractual obligation. Nor does it say he would specifically veto anything based on age, merely that a long term approach to development would be taken. There are so many shades of grey painting everything that I'm wondering how you see it in such black and white terms. edit: no pun intended. Anyone making mention of it will be shot on sight. Thank you.
  2. Going by the Turkish calendar yes he would be 21, however by Gregorian calendar standards we would call him 19.
  3. How about not another thread about the old board, jesus fucking wept.
  4. Don't really want Taylor at RB though Can't Geremi play there comfortably enough or am I dreaming? See Newcastle 0-3 Liverpool. Not sure where you're going with that, Beye played 90 minutes in both of our 0-3 losses to them, and Geremi had a game + 45. Not saying Geremi should start every game at RB, but he could fill in, and we're going to get slaughtered against the likes of pool and man u anyway, rather harsh to judge him on that.

  6. I'm all for whichever solution sees us getting rid of while recouping the most money. Couldn't care less what the public perception of it is.
  7. Why? The 3 year paymemt plan seems a good deal to me. Of all the season ticket holders who will be renewing, what percentage do you think will be able to afford a £1300+ one-off payment? Can't see many doing it myself. Transparent attempt to bolster the flagging banking and credit industries. Take out a 1334 loan at a reasonable rate, pay it off in 2 years and you'll still come in under the 3 year deal but get the one-off price.

    Arda Turan?

That's a crazy thing to say! It is a rather ridiculous statement. Just to use Domenech and the french squad as an example, he picks players based on astrological signs. So no, the best player is not always playing regardless of coach, tactic or anything else.
  9. 8m euros his "price", PSG his favored destination, Le Guen has been fortunate to "run into" his agent.
  10. I think its embarrassing. I also think that if Shepherd had did it he would have been slaughtered. Such is the way though. Not that I'm embarrassed personally. In fact I'm more embarrassed by the blatant hypocrisy if anything. What hypocrisy? Shepherd never did anything like that in order to make a compareable reaction. There's were a couple of recent things that could have fallen either way that were taken (judging solely by their reactions on here) rather well though ... The "I told my wife I loved her when I left this morning" line got many more chuckles than groans iirc. I remember when or around Owen signed Freddy made some comment about possibly being picked up by mental health services or some such, also got the chuckle instead of groan. The drive-by Scouse interview was looked at as somewhat endearing instead of embarassing. I think it's a bit too far to say it's hypocritical and that Shepherd would have been slaughtered for it. Either way, it doesn't matter how anyone would have viewed Shepherd doing it. I'm glad Mort did.
  11. Unsure what its use is and why you have it?

    Peter Crouch

Bent has the better scoring record and is 3 years younger, I'd have him in over Crouch any day of the week.
  13. There's been no hostility. Why's discussing something that's happened more of a folly than the dozens of subjects people are getting irate about all over the board on players and stuff that hasn't and will never happen? The quotations indicated the title of your piece, which I assumed, and still assume, is being acted out in mockery of the things you mentioned to highlight the foolish and utterly futile nature of the method by which some people on this board attempt to "argue" and "discuss". If it isn't, then cheers on an accidental masterpiece.
  14. Is this some kind of performance art piece between you two? "The Folly of Argument"?

Sunshine The point I'm trying to make is that I don't think Tony Jimenez, Dennis Wise or Jeff Vetere know enough about Newcastle to sell the area to a potential signing. If they do get somebody to do the preperation for them then we'll see in the coming weeks if they can bring the players to the club. These three can probably identify players and sort out contracts to bring them here but if it comes to selling the club then I think they will have problems because of a lack of knowledge, this is where Keegan would do a brilliant job, if used. If we're relying on Vetere, Wise or Jiminez reading from a script then I think we'll have problems. I think it's two different things. If a player wants to move here with family things like schools and area and all those little things will make a difference and that's where I think our three wise men will do the job. When it comes to selling the ground and the heart of the club and what it means to pull on the black and white then that's keegans domain. What I'm saying is I think that they do two separate things entirely and it's possible to co-exist without WW3 kicking off.
  16. Surely we'll see some words of praise of the current administration if they've really milked that price for him. Surely.

OK, I like fly fishing and diving, find me the best two places for this around here, the clocks ticking. It doesn't matter if I can't do it in 10 seconds for you, sunshine and here's why : If I was someone in charge of recruiting you I'd already have sussed out your hobbies and had that information prepared. Or do you think players really go up to the negotiating table with their agent ready to make ridiculous demands at the 11th hour just for the fun of it? Because if you do I'll be prepared, here and now, to finally agree with NE5 on something; namely his appraisal of your mental capacities.

I don't think that compiling a list of things like area schools, malls, transportation routes and various other lifestyle factors is an impossible task for anyone except someone who's lived there all their life.

    The Wage Bill

The "60% thing" isn't a set-in-stone-incontrovertible-fact-of-the-universe point at which every single club who goes beyond it instantly folds. It's used as a general rule of thumb and an indicator. That's all. Jesus christ.
  20. That's a special one the management keeps in reserve for swaying those difficult players. "Well we can't offer you Europe or the London nightlife. But what would you say to the third largest stadium in the country?" *slides contract across table, produces pen*
  21. Speaking of sacking, lots of names I recognize now saying "guest" ... no update in house of the banned, what did I miss lads?
  22. Oh so now it's only 25 year olds is it, when the entire point everyone was making was about the relative unknowns and had nothing to do with age? And now it's capped out at 3m when no one set a cap? For what it's worth here are the notable Arsenal transfers under 3m from the last 10 years, age ignored. Not that I expect it will change your mind about anything seeing as how you missed the entire point in the first place. 2006/2007 Alexandre Song 1m Diaby 2m Eboue 1m 2003/2004 Robin Van Persie 2.75m Phillipe Senderos 2.5m Gael Clichy 500k 2002/2003 Pascal Cygan 2.1m 2001/2002 Kolo Toure 150k 1998/1999 Freddie Ljunberg 3m Jermaine Pennant 2m
