  1. They're probably in your head because that's the only fucking place anyone has ever said that and been serious about it. To Elaborate: Building a strawman like this is infuriating. No rational, sane person on this board has ever thought or stated that he would take us into the top 4. Top 8 was the highest hope any of us had and saying that it was still acknowledged as optimistic. Trying to paint people who back Allardyce as unrealistic mongs really does you no favors.
  2. Is this just a really bad angle for the photo or is his head finally catching up with his body in terms of sheer girth? http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/725/010278340935800sb2.jpg
  3. See if you can spot me watching the fulham game http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/9015/albundyob0.jpg
  4. No, it's certianly not. I came off a bit NE5ish there with that quote didn't I. But by the same token I think not spending, during this window, on players who would stroll into our first team, isn't a bad move in and of itself.
  5. Well unless they pull their fingers out of their arses, that can be put on hold till at least the 2009/2010 season. Its really quite simple, without europe we wont attract top players. Without top players we wont get into europe. Any notions of a big 5 are thus miles away. To break this conundrum you need large investments, good judgements and to ultimately not be scared to take a gamble. Like when Bobby bought Robert. Right but I don't think they've ruled out any of that. Yes, Mort has said we won't be spending big in January. But just as it's speculation for me to say they're waiting for summer for the big moves it's also speculation to say they won't be. I guess what I don't get is why you think prudence at an early stage is equivilant to self-administered colon massages. You mention waiting till 09/10 and that doesn't seem so far fetched or unreasonable. I certianly wasn't expecting instant success, were you?
  6. I guess people are going to read the tea leaves how they may. I, for one, am optimistic about things given the overall tone and content of the messages delivered by Ashley and Mort so far. The odd one or two are ambiguous, there's no denying. And it almost goes without saying though that talk is cheap. It's actions that speak louder than any "oh I'd like to win the league in 5 years and Europe would be nice too" statement. All that said I am, for better or worse, backing Mort and Ashley to match ambition to potential and if not establish us back in the upper tier than at least force the coining of the term "Big 5."
  7. I'm an even larger one. I thought you were questioning whether Egypt would have to play in an African cup
  8. Unless matters have changed dramatically in the last few hours, that's still a part of Africa.
  9. Some people, I swear. They're looking for any reason to be down on the team and fuck it all if we didn't just keep a clean sheet, away, and win. No, that's not enough. We didn't deserve it because we didn't play like Barca on cocaine. Would rather we'd have drawn tbh, right? Some of you need help.
  10. Fuck off man, you've been talking shite all day. Are you even a supporter?! You've been here long enough to know there's a small but vocal minority who revel in their own sadness.
  11. I've got sympathy for anybody who gets stabbed for supporting any team. They put themselves in a situation where they knew there was a possibility they could get hurt, and for what, to watch Johnny Evans and Chris Eagles play in a dead game. Why? Fools for going in the first place. Are you honestly fucking blaming the victims here because that's what I'm reading, that you're saying it's their fault they got stabbed. Is that what you're saying?
  12. Given Geremi Beye Taylor Enrique Roz Barton Emre Milner N'Zogbia Martins Bench: Harper, Cacapa, Smith, Butt, Viduka
  13. I like roz, I do, but he may be better suited as a long term replacement for butt as DM. I may be misremembering but wasn't that touted as really being his best position anyway?
  14. hahahahahah I bet Capello is just dying to come here too.
  15. Carr on the bench Sam's not kidding about is he? "Boo me again fuckers, I'll put him on for Martins. Don't test me, I'll do it!"
  16. Oh you poor martyrs. Saints should be made of all of you Wrapping yourself in this protective blanket of depressed rationalization, the "I've suffered as a fan so anything I do is in order" mentality ... it's just pathetic. This thread is cringeworthy.
  17. People on this board have a bad habit of trying to put words in peoples mouths. Nowhere did I say anyone could/should/would prefer it. The point I was making was that losing is losing no matter the spin and that it's just the results that matter. People would NOT be happy if we looked slick but were in the middle of the kind of run we find ourselves in now and you know it. Defending it with "it's just unlucky run we'll turn it around" would be met with "fuck luck and fuck big sam. I don't give a toss about looking like Barca I want the 3 points. Bring back the long ball of Bolton, at least it ground out results". Now you may not like it but you know deep down that's the exact kind of response 99% here would provide. It's the results. Looking good is secondary. Right now, we're doing neither but I have faith in Sam to turn it around. Furthermore, everyone clamoring on and on with their version of "this is the most diabolically bad football what ever been played on a pitch" is being blown out of proportion by the effect of an early sour patch in Sams tenure. People had this great image of Sam built up as some kind of savior and to hit this skid so early it's forced some of the deep seated fears to bubble up and they're made manifest. I think everyone needs to stand up, take a step back and take a deep breath.
  18. Pure, uncut horseshit . If the bad results were "entertaining" 4-3 losses there'd be just as much complaining if not more.
  19. And what if it's easy/lazy journalism to make a shit-stirring article about a Newcastle manager after a few poor results? God knows that's a dead easy article to write -- internal unrest, owner unhappy, manager feeling the pressure ... the f***ing thing writes itself. And it's the easy thing to believe as well because it echoes some of our worst fears but only now they're in paper form and of course that lends credence to them.
  20. Hopefully with the regime change we've also lost the demonic drive to find new and better ways to make ourselves look like laughingstocks. Sticking with Sam through a bad patch would go a long way to convincing me we have.
  21. hahahhaha carr on; the substitutive equivilant of two fingers back to the crowd from sam
