  1. From the beeb: 2129: Suddenly, Oba Martins is on fire. He does Luke Young twice and then it looks like he is brought down on the edge of the box by Carlos Cuellar, but the ref gives nothing. What on earth did big Joe say to his boys at half-time? They've been sensational since. Kinda nice to hear something positive...
  2. At Charlton (h) a few years ago and had to take the train back to London after the match. Full of Charlton supporters shouting abuse at me in my toon top. Never threatening but loud and obnoxious. Couple of mackems started in on me and were turning violent (probably on their way home from a night out in toon). The Charlton boys turned on them until they left the train. Was quite funny that even the southerners would take the time to abuse the mackems even though it was after an NUFC match. Do the mackems always behave like neanderthals?
  3. Fox Soccer Channel usually picks up the Sky matches to broadcast in America. They have not listed this match to broadcast. You likely will not get it on your cable as it is a subscription channel. Best bet is to go to a pub, "Sports Bars" will often open early and serve breakfast and show the match. What city will you be near?
  4. So the match has started or are you taking the p*ss?
  5. Why? It is not unusual in a "normal" business for the principals in a dispute to meet and set out the ground rules. MA: Kev, for the good of the club why don't we handle this in a low-key manner. KK: I want my compensation and I don't want you spouting s**** to the press. MA: Ya, that was unfortunate, shouldn't have happened. Can we do this without muck raking? KK: Probably for the best. I will tell my people to handle it quietly but if your team pull any more stunts I am going to be in every paper and on the telly in a heartbeat. MA: Done KK: Done Nope. There will be a "keep schtum" clause in Keegan's contract, like with every modern manager who gets sacked/walks out (read: Mourihno, the most outspoken, yet strangely quiet post-Chelsea, manager of his generation). Any mediation regarding compensation would be done in the presence of counsel, with a "break out room" for discussions between each party and their respective solicitors if the discussion breaks down. Who says the solicitors were not present?

  7. Has anyone had success returning their 3 year ST's for refund? I ask because, as I understand it, the "official" attendance is on tickets sold and not people through the gate. That said, if a ST holder doesn't show up he is still considered as attending and the attendance number will support MA. "Well boys, we sacked Keegan and 50,000 attended the Hull match - piss on the boycott, eh?"
  8. I think that there is uncertainty in the business of football that will continue for the medium term (5 - 7 years). The game is not changing as fast as the finances and that leaves the average supporter wondering where it will end up. It will take the 5 -7 years for the business side to sort itself out and normal operating will be established. When there are no more huge increases in broadcast rights and no more un-exploited markets we will have the "new" football and it will be more stable than it is now. As for NUFC, when there is an upturn in the sporting goods business we may see more investment...
  9. Is it 9M to us and 3M to Leeds for the sell on?
  10. soccernet.com was able to post 14 updates in added time on the game tracker wotsit. 14 WTF!!!
  11. Looking at the BBC preview and they list Gutierrez as Jonas. Did I miss something? I didn't think he was a one named South American. All of the other media outlets list him as Jonas Gutierrez. It would be like writing Michael instead of Owen on the team sheet.
  12. MLS v. West Ham - I cannot believe I supported Scott Parker! One forward pass and he looked like he was either sucking lemons or about to cry!
  13. I noticed that they have a 17 year old (Welbeck) on the bench. What an experience for a kid. Odd line up - maybe Fergie is focussed on the league!!
  14. Soccer am. It really surprises me how Bullard has garnered so much attention in the media. I cannot claim to watching every minute he has played but the times I have had a look he has been OK, not special. A couple of killer free kicks and some hustle and his reputation is made??!!??
  15. Interesting that Martin Samuel's recent articles include two about NUFC (one is the Barton article) and all the rest about Engerlund. Bizarre fixation methinks...
  16. Strange how the journo mentions Newcastle almost as much as Blackburn.

    Davey Edgar

I think the U20s in Canada helped him this year. The fact that he is filling out is not surprising - in an interview this summer on Canadian TV he talked about how physical it is in the prem. Oh and of course Canadians are nice!!
  18. My first match was Chalton(h) in 2004 and I remember him sprinting like it was the Olympic final in the 100m. He beat the other Physio and the place went nuts. Piss poor 1-1 draw and that was a hghlight.
  19. To the tune of The old grey mare: We don't give a damn about the sh*t team from Sunderland sh*t team from Sunderland sh*t team from Sunderland We don't give a damn about the sh*t team from Sunderland 'cuz we're from Newcastle. Of course you can use Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham or the whole South of England as required.
