  1. Not sure to be honest, Madras. Have we any ex-miners on here who could shed some light on things? I was 11 years old when the strike began in 84 and as the son of a miner (at that time), it wasn't good . Lots of people today, particularly youngsters don't understand how bad it was back then. Having to go to soup kitchens for a meal during school holidays - says it all really. The strike still gets my dander up now 25 years on since it ended.
  2. I'll be shouting 'Scabs' if it starts up tomorrow. Reasons why Nottinghamshire didn't strike was because those miners worked and got far better conditions/money than the miners in the rest of the country. These super pits had enjoyed plenty of investment during that time, which set about creating the division. In the end though, Nottinghamshire miners ended up getting shafted by the Tories as well. In saying that, I know there were plenty NE lads who went to work in the Notts pits after the strike. Plenty Geordies knocking about down there still.
  3. Alan Green and Jan Molby fawning all over Liverpool on 5Live. Have they really played that well or are the mackems that bad?
  4. Was just about to post that. Couldn't attempt to rock the boat harder if she tried. Blatant in the extreme.
  5. Think he's from Whitley Bay.
  6. Massive win in the scheme of things if we can hang on here. Pancrate on for Routledge.
  7. 12 goals in 14 games now for Carroll. A fair strike-rate. Doncaster equalise after a rick by Harper, but offside.
  8. Donny definitely on top now I'd say. Billy Sharp with another shot, which Harper saves.
  9. Yup. Problem is that teams always raise their game against us when we are on the road.
  10. Unfortunately I now see tonight as a real banana skin. Think Doncaster will take it 2-1. As for Carroll starting - I'd be very surprised if he does.
  11. If this turns out to be true, then the club has to deal with Carroll and move him on. The kid has potential and done really well of late, but it's tempered by the fact that he seems to be a knacker and we've had too many of them in recent years. I for one hope that the club don't try to shove this under the carpet. A broken jaw is a serious injury - GBH I believe if it's the result of an unprovoked punch.
  12. Never met him, but often used to see him on a matchday back in the early 90's. One of those few men who's whole life revolved around Newcastle United.
  13. What is it with us and playing away from home? For me it's a doubt as to Hughton's claim to be given a chance in the PL should we go up. 1 away win in 10 isn't good enough for a side chasing promotion. More worryingly, why is it that we only start playing when we go behind? Is Hughton setting us up to be negative from the start? Thought Carroll was excellent again today - good feet, good in the air and took his goal well. Jonas also picked up after a very average first half. Overall got to be happy with the point after being 2-0 down, but the away form is worrying in such an 'average' league.
  14. Pompey score 2 in 2 minutes - now winning 3-2.
  15. I don't! Managed by a jammy spiv.
  16. Reading equalize at Boro - Wheater og.
  17. Jerome scores for Birmingham 2-1 to the mackems.
