Very good point, that could be why Wise and Jimenez are in Dubai next couple of weeks. Which would be understandable if the club was owned by someone with limited funds (ie previous regime) and wanted it to expand, but in Ashley's circumstances it really does make me ask: why?

A lot of people including myself knew about him before E2008, and even with a couple of great games on the big stage, he's still a risk, at £25m this club simply cannot afford a risk like it. Ah, think your coming from a different angle, I wasn't looking at the perspective of Arshavin joining Newcastle, in fact I don't even think he'd take a second look at us now. I agree for that particular price it would be far too big a gamble for us. However to a club like Inter Milan, Barcelona or even some of the lesser lights like Liverpool, Fiorantina or Villareal he'd be well worth the gamble, Got you. £25m is a gamble for any of them, a one which some can afford to do, the price is inflated still but that's what shining in a major tournament does to a player and its to be expected. I personally don't think he's worth that kind of price, but with supposed interest growing its a sellers market in his case, and it might take a mad price to finalise the deal.

Yes but if you think about it. Before Euro 2008, despite wining the UEFA cup with Zenit, he was still very much an unproven quantity. But, now that he has delivered in one of the biggest stages of International Football, you can see exactly what you are getting. Although £25million is a bit steep, I would certainly pay it out on someone who can get us to the next level and if he manages to get us into the UEFA cup in 2008/2009 then he has paid back a large bulk of that fee. UEFA cup football makes you peanuts. I'm sure you've got to reach the semi's to get past the £3m mark.

I'd start getting nervous at the £15m mark, anything more than that then i'm quite happy to see that ship sale past us.

Well I meant cheeky in the sense of Newcastle getting an early bid in. That bid may not be matched amd Zenit will only give Arshavin the choice to join us. Especially seeing as though Arsenal seem (according to the press) to be the only club in for Arshavin atm and Arsene has come out today to say they must sell their best players to buy cheaper ones for the next 17 years. Fair enough. Personally I don't think he's worth anything like £25m. Not even in today's market? The lad is top draw, has been for a couple of years now and he can only get better. The fact is in today's ridiculously over inflated market he's probably worth £25 million of anyone's money... Possibly of a club which can afford to throw away big money on players near their peak.

to do with* Jon thanks from sending me a pm saying "You are a massive ****".

I think it, you say it.

You're getting it. Bah!

I can't believe someone sent her a PM tbh.

£10m for a 28 year old is a lot of money. I'd rather go for Evans at that price. But saying that, if its in the papers then its incorrect as we only sign players out of the blue.

American private equity firm InterMedia Partners was approached about a possible takeover of Newcastle United, according to a spokesman. Reports on Friday claimed Newcastle had held informal discussions with American investors over the sale of the club. It was suggested that owner Mike Ashley stated he would be willing to sell for a fee of £420million - around £286million more than he paid for the club last summer. However, later on Friday, Newcastle rubbished reports of takeover talks and a £420million price-tag. But a spokesman for InterMedia Partners has claimed that the New York-based company were contacted by an unnamed party with regards to a buyout, but had no interest in taking the matter any further. "InterMedia was approached about a deal, made no offer and has no interest," a spokesman told the BBC.

Probably the only player in the squad who entertains me, excites me when playing and seemingly canny as fuk. I would be devastated if we sold him, but don't blame him for thinking about a move to Arsenal, us and them? Chalk and cheese.
-
That means he had that thing in his pants for 189 games without using it Sounds like Towelie

He would be mad not to sell the club for that price. He was always going to sell the club in the end, there was always a massive chance it would be a quick sale due to his lack of experience in the business and constant problems that come with it, but at that price no one in their right mind would buy it. That's more than Liverpool's value, so i guess he stays.

He knew his place, as a backup keeper.

Fuking hell. How can we NUFC fans dare criticise a footballer going somewhere for the money. Un-fuking-believable.

Russian players are living in the limelight, typical Hiddink performance, i remember when everyone went crazy for the Koreans, turned out only one of them was of any real quality. The Russians have more talent granted, but i honestly think they are the main benefiters of the tournament, and they are the ones which will be over priced, over hyped and in demand. Pavlyuchenko didn't really impress me, i'm just not sure at all about him, very hit and miss, and for that, i'd rather miss out and go for a proven talent such as Bent, rather than taking the chance Pavlyuchenko turns out to be a Rebrov or Shevchenko in this league.

if joey barton was a shelf stacker in tescos you'd say "tough f***ing s*** for being an arse...you don't deserve yet another chance...how the hell d'you get away with a suspended sentence scum thug" If barton was a shelf stacker he wouldn't have got the aggro he gets out on the piss for being famous. Especially in Liverpool, especially since his half bro killed someone. he'll get that all the time...how many chances does he get. my opinion is he's a bloke who wants to do the right thing,he's great with the kids and charities etc but has such a low set off point that in my experience,he'll find it very hard to change,if not impossible till he has more to lose. I think being in jail is enough, i hope its enough, for eveyone's sake. He's not wanting to be a career criminal, so he will want to avoid going back there for the rest of his life. The club will have him curfewed to death, thats not including being tagged for a couple of years no doubt. He'll be attending the sporting chance clinic, as well as anger management, he's going to get every last bit of support and help you could possibly get, if that isn't enough then yeah, there really is no saving him. But i think we should offer him that chance, if he's willing to take a pay cut showing his willingness, even if its not half, its symbolic enough for me to say OK, you've got one last chance, do it. hope you are right.....i;m not holding my breath I can totally understand why, as I can also understand why people have had enough and are ready to turn their backs on him. He's only himself to blame, lets hope he knows that, realises it, and decides it will not happen again. For me he was very good in our winning run, a full season of that would be a great start, but i reckon he's got even more than that in him to give, and the way he restrained himself (because he's become a target to wind up) but still applied himself was nothing short of excellent too. I'd be quite annoyed if the club bow down to the media pressure to sack him now, i personally don't think they will, even if its to get him back on tract and sell him this time next year, if he stays out of trouble and maintains form, he'll fetch a good price.
