While we need to improve the first team we also need a bigger squad. Do people not remember us finishing the season with Ryan Taylor in central midfield? Tiote is going to the African Nations. Signing like this is low risk and shrewd if Pardew rates him.

A further sign of Llambias' incompetency with the Joey Barton talks. I have no reason to believe that Ashley wouldn't sanction it. What we have is a man who is so far up his own arse he can't see what the manager is saying, what the fans are all saying, in that Barton is an integral part of the team and currently maintains a unique position in that he is one of the people behind the drive and determination the team has shown. Even a better player would not be able to replicate that, but Llambias is being too stubborn on things which he doesn't have a clue. What is also clear is that he is someone who is clearly unable to communicate with players, managers, agents, and fans and for that reason alone is completely useless.

Pardew's relationship with the board might be good now. Allardyce would have told them that he knows better than they do. Keegan would have been too ambitious and sold it all on sentiment. Kinnear was insane. Hughton would just take what he has been given and work with that. However Pardew I feel has the ability to put a reasoned well constructed business case to the board which I reckon they will be more receptive to.

I've watched him twice this season and he scored 5 goals in those 2 games. Maybe someone in France saw Leon Best play twice this season.

Harper - 7 - Solid season, but not magnificent. Can be a great player. Would have gotten 10 were it not for the suspensions. LuaLua - 5.5 - Limited appearances and has been unlucky, but worth one final look. Krul - 6.5 - Effective debut season but must now push on and learn from his errors. Taylor - 6.5 - Disappointing for much of the season but showing signs of bringing it back together.
