  1. Thats exactly the same attitude thats got us into the current mess that we're in. Lets go out and sign a completely unsuitable left back just cos we can eh? But Allardyce has said there that he can't even find a suitable one. F*cking hell man, that's worrying isn't it? Aye it is a bit, most left backs are attacking nowadays, the most defense minded one I can think of off the top of my head is Nicky Shorey He's pretty offensive.
  2. Actually this search for non-attacking DLC's mean that Sam is desperate to play 3-5-2
  3. Allardyce has already distanced himself from that one.
  4. Just had a very bad season injury wise.
  5. There was only one good left back in the world and he went to Barcelona, I find that very hard to believe. Only one good defensive left back that has been transferred this summer. Sam clearly thinks we need a left back who can play a defensive role rather than an attacking role, and those type of players don't exist due to the motivations of youth coaches.
  6. Its true though, there aren't any good defensive left backs. Left footers are so rare, that the best left footers will be on the left wing. What good would it do to have youth coaches playing their best player at left back?
  7. Only to move to a different league though, and he doesn't want to do that.
  8. Longer interview on Radio Five Live is on the BBC football page.
  9. The People is the least reliable Sunday paper.
  10. The People are the least reliable of all Sunday rags, so I wouldn't believe it.
  11. Hope they don't put Roeder in charge of transfer dealings - he was so slow and naive.

    Dyer's replacement

Sign me from West Ham. It has been my dream to play for Newcastle United.

    Jose Bosingwa

Wouldn't trust that rumour at all considering it states that we are still chasing Hangeland.

    Dyer's replacement

Funny thing is, people say that, but cant come up with any realistic names that would trump Dyer. Dyer is like Laurent Robert really. Few attributes ranging from good to very good, but quite shoddy in other areas. However, Robert gets a higher proportion of plaudits as people remember the assists and the goals. However, much of the key game changing moments produced by Dyer are forgotten about as they often come quite a few touches of the ball between the final goal, so will be overshadowed by Solano's pinpoint cross or Shearer's diving header in the minds of fans at the time, and wont even be shown in the television highlights package. A good team has each player playing to their individual strengths. Thats what Robson did with Robert, Dyer and Shearer, catapaulting us into Europe. I hope Allardyce will do the same.

    Dyer's replacement

Would probably be a bit higher if he hadn't been injured, but Dyer's game has never been about direct assists. Dyer's game has always been about collecting the ball in the defensive half, carrying it forwards into the final third, then delivering it to the feet of a more creative player, before continuing his forward run, dragging markers away from the real dangermen.

    Dyer's replacement

He crucially missed a sitter in the last minute and also it was his shit header that handed them their second. You are talking shite. A sitter he made for himself, and without him, it would have been 2-2, and we'd have never reached the second round. Didn't really make it for himself, all he needed was to flick it past someone. It it wasn't for him it would probably still have been 1-2 anyway. And you seriously believe that another player in the team would have reached the ball, and got in that goal scoring situation? And which player could we realistically bring in to do that for us if needed in the future? No-one, as West Ham or Spurs would have already signed them up rather than take a risk on an injury prone, over-paid, one-trick player. The defensive question is irrelevant, we all know that Dyer can't defend. I'm arguing that we couldn't replace his attacking/matchwinning.

    Dyer's replacement

Ever occurred to you that it's possible for ANYONE, even if they're the toppest top proper manager of all time to make shit decisions? Goldfinger said, 'Mr Bond, they have a saying in Chicago: "Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, the third time it's enemy action"'

    Dyer's replacement

Quality article here: http://www.newcastle-online.com/2007/07/23/kierons-not-that-dyer/#more-743 Raises a good point - why do top managers like Curbishley and Jol want him?

    Dyer's replacement

His injury problems ended in 2006. And Newcastle United have always beenmuch much much worse when he's been injured. George Burley Ruud Gullit Sir Bobby Robson Kevin Keegan Sven Goran Eriksson Graeme Souness Glenn Roeder Steve McClaren Sam Allardyce The above either thought he was good enough to play for England, or picked him to play in the starting XI whenever fit. These are footballers and managers. They'll have better footballing knowledge than anyone on this forum, even the shit managers on that list, and they've all recognised the quality of Kieron Dyer.

    Dyer's replacement

By the way, although I think that Dyer is one of the best on the planet when it comes to running on the ball with speed, he is far from the best player in the world, in fact the rest of his game is very limited. However any good manager knows that a player and a team should play to their strengths, and there are definitely worthwhile assets that can be obtained from a used correctly Kieron Dyer. Bobby Robson did that, and we finished 4th, 3rd and 5th. Many forget Dyer's crucial role in many matches, including the 3-2 win over Feyenoord. Other players that possess any real attacking attributes that can make the difference between defeat and victory are out of our reach. We just finished 13th remember? Thus Dyer is irreplaceable for us. If he goes, the best we can do is reshuffle the team, make the most of the fact that we no longer have to accomodate a player that doesn't fit amongst the conventional tactical systems, and then spend the money on whatever areasare weakened by the reshuffle.

    Dyer's replacement

Its on one of the World videos, but haven't got the time to look at them all. Check out Hartlepool post match though - it is clear that Allardyce rates him extremely highly. And he says he's irreplaceable and is the BEST IN THE WORLD at carrying the ball? Give over man. He said he couldn't find another player who could run forward with the ball more effectively iirc.
