  1. I've posted this before but I've had it on very good authority that in the recent past (when McClaren was here) the club wouldn't fork out for proper ice baths and we were using wheelie bins instead. this may sound daft, but the wheelie bins are actually perfect for an ice bath in pre season, its not scrimping or anything but you will see that most clubs use them I think we sometimes just revel in "this club man" rolling of the eyes moments As if a PL club is going to sign an international player and tell him to get in a wheelie bin because they can't afford a couple of hundred quid for an ice bath
  2. There was a noticeable lack of Dutch and Scandinavian day trippers in the ground last season for quite obvious reasons. I suppose we'll be marketing a few tickets that way again now we're back in the glamour league ?
  3. "Four Moyes years!" "Four Moyes years!"
  4. There's probably been too much emphasis on numbers here and the actual figure that will spent on incoming players. The real positive is in the message that at last we have a club united from top to bottom, the main people seem to be very much in agreement and there's a world class manager running the football side. As a small example, our physiotherapy team was understaffed for years despite protestations from them. Rafa sorted that immediately and he will continue the general overhaul with player recruitment being just the visible icing on the cake. Nothing is certain in football, but what is, is that Newcastle United is in the best shape it been for quite some time.
  5. We must be very well placed to see a significant rise in commercial revenues going forward as we look like being the only top flight club for hundreds of miles.
  6. One of the only few. Mag.
  7. His interview on the nufc.com match report was brilliant. What a professional.
  8. It seems their levels of bitterness are at peak levels right now and chips on shoulder are of monumental proportion. The antidote for their depression is to make up some complete and utter bullshit, get others to agree and then deem it to be a fact.
  9. I was reading somewhere a fan from one of the clubs who would have the money to buy him talk about this, he was basically telling the Mackems to get real. His point was that to spend 30 million on a keeper, he has to be the proven commodity because there a lot of other options out there for slightly older keepers who have the miles on their clock maybe they are in their mid to late 20's but if you bought one of those you would get at least 10 years or more out of them because keepers generally play longer than outfield players. Pickford has had one season in top flight football, being at the bottom club where keepers have the chance to shine with the amount of shots raining down on him. You are still very much paying for potential, no one is paying 30 million for potential, not even money stupid clubs like Man City or Chelsea. If he went to one of the "big" clubs he's probably going to have to sit on the bench, that's a lot of money to splurge on a bench warmer, why not pick up someone else for a much more reasonable price and watch Pickford develop some place else to see if he's the real deal or a one season wonder. GK is simply not a valued enough position and you can only play one at a time with a lot of adequate alternatives out there for them to get close to what that figure. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him start the season still with that lot. That would screw up their recruitment policy which seems to be based solely around getting huge sums for players who have been playing for the worst team in the division this season. It'll make it all the more funny when they only get around £12M for him. There'll be a mackem meltdown. nah, they will post things about 6 in a row- our trophy records etc, and that makes their money go further. You forgot "we relegated them" threads too. Did they "win" relegation this season or was it just something they made up for us on a one-off basis ?
  10. By the rules of the Premier League they are only obliged to give us 3,000. Don't think it's been announced yet but I would hope they'll give more. Thanks. I'd imagine the Wembley business will want it full as often as possible and being used to handling 50/50 occasions they'll give big away allocations. Be interesting to see what they intend to do but I'm sure any club like us would easily sell 10,000 or more, depending on kick off time and other circumstances of course.
  11. Anyone know what the proposed away fan allocation will be at Spurs/Wembley. Would imagine it will be very big ?
  12. I was at the match on Sunday, and Brighton were shit. Couldn't beat us, and we were down to ten men after they were gifted a pen and a red card with 30 minutes to go. We were much the better team. I found myself thinking they look really badly equipped for next season, no matter how well they've done this. Oh and their players were doing the 'on knees, thumping floor' thing when Grealish scored. Brighton have been shit every time I've seen them this season. Ground out wins with loads of penalties and refereeing decisions in their favour. If you analyse our possession stats, shots, etc as well as actual goals scored, which should be an indicator of how attacking we played, then compare it to other teams and factor in penalties awarded and conceded there is reasonable evidence to suggest that something was amiss. Apart from that anyone with two eyes who watched our games could make the case.
  13. That thread, posted on the day we won the Championship and shortly after their own abysmal relegation, shows just how weird they are as people and fans and how badly the reversal of fortunes is affecting them
  14. Stick up a poll on here. Wouldn't change much but would give an instant, visible indication of what Newcastle supporters really think about this stupid idea.
  15. Saw that, very good gesture. Shows that they really want to avoid relegation. There'll still be a lot more FTMs than FTJs
  16. It's a bit like the nerdy soft kid who wants to hang around with the big lads in the school yard and wallows in it. Sad but sums that lot up. I remember being in Rotterdam and mentioning it to a Feyenoord fan and he didn't even know who Sunderland were. Really sad actually
  17. https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/our-away-fans-fantastic-today.1359680/ Their financial results and having the most empty seats in a stadium year on year kind of contradicts these predictable, self congratulatory threads they come up with after almost every match.
  18. The last few weeks were quite intense, wanting us to go up and Sunderland down meant there were so many games to take an interest in. All of a sudden it's over and other teams games don't have the same meaning, although Brighton's slip ups means we have something to keep us interested until the end.
  19. I'm here mate. Been a long time coming this and I'm under no illusions, it'll be a hard league to get out of next season. Without investment? I hope the young lads step up. Our U23 side is in a final. They must have something. With/Without Moyes? I must be one of few who think sticking with him is the best option. He was dealt a shit hand both at the start and throughout this season. Hasn't helped himself I admit but I think he could build something. I feel pretty apathetic towards this, pretty 'meh'. My shift change has recently allowed myself to get a season ticket again next season for the first time in four years. I'm looking forward to going to every game again and a weekend away in Leeds with some of the lads off my Sunday league team. Still my team, I'm disappointed, it's not the end of the world It hurts, but you called the outcome quite a while ago. I think most people did, it just looked like there wasn't enough fight to muster an end of season miracle this time. It will be a hard league to get out of. Better players and more organised teams than the last time we were in it. I think you need to ditch Moyes. Don't know who you'd get but there is an air of negativity around that he is responsible for and it will take a lot to change that. Enjoy your season ticket. The refereeing standard is awful but it's a decent league and you may even get to enjoy a few victories.
  20. Possibly, but unlikely a young pro would have that in their first or second contract unless they were seen as the next Messi or something. If he were to sign another one with them it'd be a certainty.
  21. He isn't though. Just a current media darling which means his good moments are highlighted and his deficiencies are brushed over. Decent but really nothing special. Depends on what you define as special. If special is different then you'll be hard pushed to find another English keeper as good as him with the ball. His distribution skills are really good, he's easily their best passer of a ball which tells its own story. All you here is goalkeepers being critisised for being shot stoppers only, well here's one with something else to his game and it's this that makes him different....special is probably too far, but there's big interest in him due to unique skill set. He is a footballer as well as a keeper, something Pep at citeh seems to rate so highly he shipped out England's No1. You've obviously seen a lot more of him than I have. From what I have seen the hype outweighs the substance. We'll see. The Mackems are notorious for thinking their players are better than they actually are. I've thought this ever since I was pointed to a thread on RTG several years ago which ran into 40 odd pages with most of them agreeing Lorik Cana was in the top 10 midfielders in world football. I won't pretend I've seen that much of Pickford, maybe half a dozen times or so, but based on what I have seen he's got a long way to go before he's anywhere near as good as the top Keepers in the PL. Also goalkeepers are made to look better when they play for Sunderland as they are constantly kept busy. Mingolet was meant to be the next great keeper but went to a big club and has been found out. Less than a year ago, probably more than half this board were saying that Moyes was a top manager who would take them forward despite the most recent evidence of Man U and Real Sociedad indicating otherwise. Sheareresque MOTD levels of anti-bias on here at times
  22. Will know a few more thousand off their average attendance. They'll get 30k max, was under 25k last time. 30K would still be more than they had in on Saturday despite the quoted 38,000. Must be the same people counting their attendance who are estimating the value of Pickford.

  25. Notice some of them are talking about the problems with north east football. It makes them feel better to try and lump us in with their current malaise. I don't think any of us are getting carried away, but one is a club on the up, playing to 52,000 sell outs with a world class manager. The other is on a big slide, has had the most empty seats in the Premier League year on year and has David Moyes.
