  1. Like Toon Dale say's I can't see why anyone would have a problem with "the way the money has being spent." I think we are spending money a hell of a lot better than Liverpool, although my confidence might be shattered in time or justified by how Cabaye and Marveaux settle. Granted we need to bring in more players, the club has never said anything to the contrary. If we had signed Gervinho, Gameiro, Matuidi and Taylor would people be happier? I would hope so although I'm sure the doom mongers would dismiss each deal due to Gameiro's least favourite color being green or some madness. The reality is all of those players have turned us down and we have to adjust targets. We have time to make sure we get value for money, we don't need to jump the gun on anything just yet if we are going to get a much better deal in the weeks to come. I can understand impatience and the impulse to knee jerk but too many fans want to spend for spending sake. People are quick to forget we have done the best early business we have done in years. I still believe we are after another striker and attacking mid, then after that we will pick up any deals if they are right for the club, that could be no-one or it could be someone like Stephen Ireland. Deals always arise nearer the end of the window. Ideally we want our main striker signing in as soon as possible, but we are good to go for Arsenal with what we have imo.
  2. a versatile player who can compete for LW, CAM and RW would seem to make sense. we have 4 first team players for those 3 positions currently, one has an uncertain future here, one hasn't played since november and another who hasn't played since october. so we should be looking at someone else - i don't see any reason why it couldn't be N'Zogbia as he really does fit the bill and we have the resources, so it is a disappointment we've given up on him. he would've gone a big way towards replacing the end product Nolan had too. I agree, but I think that is what we got with Marveaux. He can cover all of those positions, leaving Guti (who can play either side) Ferguson (LW), Barton (RW), Ben Arfa (LW/AM) and Gosling (RW/AM). I suppose we have to include Raylor as well. Also depends who else in the reserves steps up e.g. Vuckic, Abeid, Richardson etc. I still think we would have taken N'Zog at the right price but the odds weren't in our favor given his list of admirers eager to splash whatever cash it takes. We aren't like that anymore which is frustrating at times but that's the way the club works, hopefully we see benefit to that in the future.
  3. A lot depends on our focus on the youngsters. It has been the clubs remit to bring through and create stars since Ashley took over, now we are seeing a crop come through. On the word of the club's focus you could assume these players will assume a lot of the squad places. This season and the next will be the litmus test to the clubs plans. I think more than ever we do actually have a potentially exciting bunch of youngsters coming up. Time well tell if its money well spent or wasted. Many people want us to go out and spend money but many of the same people have been critical of our academy and failure to produce our own stars in the past. With the money and time that has been invested it is coming to a point where we need to start relying on the Academy and reserves to step up and make the grade. The club needs to spend wisely to keep experienced and quality older players at the club but still intersperse the club with younglings that can hopefully make the grade.
  4. Who cares what he said? He talks nothing but s**** every time he opens his mouth. Well do yourself a favor and go back into hibernation until the season starts instead of turning into an overly emotional teenager with their knickers in a twist. If you don't like or believe anything that comes out don't read it. It is the same every year regardless of who, what or when we bring people in over the summer. People should really know the score with the summer and that it is nothing but speculation, frustration and smoke and mirrors, then the odd glimmer of hope if a signing is made before the vultures descend to dissect the deal to find any ounce of fault in the deal. I honestly think some people want their summer to be ruined and talk themselves into a state that does so.
  5. Probably would have done the same in his position like.
  6. Pardew said and reiterated two offensive players i thought? Back to N'Zogbia, the club could have come out and clarified that we werent after him sooner, but maybe it was being used as a smokescreen to the clubs favor. I don't really think we needed to clarify that we werent after him any sooner, no-one at the club actually confirmed that we were.
  7. Not surprised, people (myself included) should have twigged sooner that Marveaux coming in would have ended any interest in N'Zog. They practically occupy the same role in the team. I think we were ready to jump and get N'Zogbia back before Marveaux's U-Turn though. Does make me wonder what kind of offensive player we are looking at in addition to striker though. I had assumed RW, but in light of this maybe we are looking at an central attacking mid.
  8. Did we actually ascertain where he plays? I thought he was a winger, then an attacking central mid or striker, then after he officially joined a couple of interviews said that he views himself as a DM?
  9. "In my day....." I personally don't have a problem with our buying policy. To say we have no ambition to win anything or improve makes no sense, Its cutting your nose off to spite your face. If Ashley is only looking to buy players cheap and sell them on then the players themselves have to be performing well and we have to be improving as a team to do that. I respect the fact you have seen this trend and been through worse and better owners but give the constant negativity a rest. The club might not be moving forward at the rate of Man City or Chelsea but we don't have those funds. I don't really see the problem with going about the way the club is being run to steadily improve, what other option do we have? Eventually we want to be in a position closer to where we wouldn't have to sell our best players if high bids come in, but if its right and it funds a larger improvement to the club then we have little choice. I don't know where you think we are as a club in world standing but if the likes of Manure, Arsenal, Liverpool and even Spurs (who are streaks ahead of us) can't keep their best players what chance do we have, if bigger clubs come in with big bids the players head will also be turned, when we start selling our best players consistently to clubs at our standard or lower then I will be concerned..for where we are now the players that leave us only leave for bigger clubs and unfortunately that is a way of the footballing world. Do you think if we had "showed some ambition" and signed Gameiro and he actually played consistently well for us that we wouldnt have Man City, Real Madrid or someone else knocking on the door in a year or so? I guess its win win because people could moan if that happened and if it didnt it would probably mean he didnt play well and was "yet another expensive waste of money" and another "foreign flop". Blame the scouts, blame the club. I have had my share of ambition under the previous regimes, none have heralded silverware and while big name signings came it only brought us closer to ultimate destruction. Our chance to be riding as a constant in the top four went out with SBR and a plethora of stupid decisions after his sacking. Until we get taken over by a mystery billionaire the best for forward is by creating our own stars and buying on the cheap and if you want to call us a selling club so be it, but every player at every club has a price so believe we are in good company.
  10. Can't see why he has become such a cunt all of a sudden. To be honest we should be going out and buying someone to replace him. We need competition in that area anyway so if he does end up staying... a) its his fault he might not be starting every week. b) we have decent cover if one of them gets injured.
  11. Were on the verge of going under. Daglish is assembling quite the squad of potentially decent home grown players. Thing is he has spent 80m too much on what could turn out to be a huge pile of wank.
  12. Manure beat New England Revolution 4-1. Macheda bagged two and looked decent, don't know if he will get much of a look in this year but looks like he could do well for himself in the future. Big, strong, very decent finish and god with the ball at his feet was impressed even against poor opponents.
  13. Can't believe that, more likely Brighton don't have the cash to spend now they got Mackail-Smith. would be decent to see him help Clarkie out though. Think he will still end up at Brighton on loan.
  14. What's with the press and media bum licking Barton all of a sudden, telegraph and especially the guardian article are actually printing papers from inside his ass today.
  15. 3m to get great young backup for either fullback positions would be fantastic business, not least because both Clyne and Taylor are both very highly rated. Would be delighted with Clyne, think he would really push Simpson at right back while at the same time dispelling the need to ever play Raylor there and give Tavernier a needed crack in the championship/league one on loan. Would be suprised if we are in for him though, he does tick all the boxes but it seems to be too logical, im sure they can stick with Raylor, Saylor, Tavernier and Simpson all being able to play at RB on paper.
  16. Does it matter when he is free? They interrupted Mikes Ashleys lunch for this piece of new, HIS LUNCH!.
  17. Seems an unlikely one now. But Ziani is available for nowt. Think they would only be interested if Barton was off and we already have Barnetta as back up in that case. http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/8971/6/ziani-free-join-newcastle-after-wolfsburg-release
  18. What exactly do you mean by "you people"? I couldn't mean it like that, because there are no racial slurs for white people.
  19. Shit, lets hope he turns up before the Arsenal game. Careless fucks.
  20. Think we should get more than 1.5m for him, granted thats pretty much how much he has cost int he past, as mentioned, but his performances and stats in the championship over the past two years are more than decent, match winning tbh. Match winners should command a decent fee, he has years left in the tank too, not to mention the last two clubs he has been with have been promoted (forget the rest).
  21. Talk of Barton in cm Spans from his city days when he was fantastic and pulled all the strings, pissed all over us both times I watched us there. Sewelly is spot on though in terms of games for us. Slot depends on who is around him and how we are playing he needs time and space, as mentioned to flourish. From his time here there it's night and day between out on the right and through the middle, if we can ain't broke don't fix it.
