  1. TOTTENHAM and Newcastle are leading the race for Derby’s £3million-rated whizkid Giles Barnes, writes DAVE KIDD. Toon boss Glenn Roeder has been an admirer ever since the midfielder, 18, tore apart his academy side two years ago. Spurs chief Martin Jol is also keen on the talented youngster, who can also play on either wing. And the Dutchman may be willing to loan Barnes back to the promotion-chasing Rams for the rest of the season — in a deal similar to the one which took Tom Huddlestone from Pride Park to White Hart Lane two years ago. Barnes is being regularly watched by top-flight scouts, including Chelsea. And Derby boss Billy Davies admits he will not stand in the player’s way if the price is right. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-10151,00.html Good prospect.
  2. Personally enjoyed the one's at Watford; "Are you shagging Elton John?" And Watfords reply 5 mins later of; "Are you shagging Ant and Dec?"

    Moore setback

And Givens only 50-50 for Everton. Reckon we'll be lucky to get any points out of the next 2 games, then hopefully have a player or 2 back for the Birmingham cup game. We've then got 8 days to get some people back for Spurs away, which again, won't be easy. Not going to be a good couple of weeks.

    Peter Damage

Ramage has been brilliant with Taylor these last few weeks. Fucking disgracefull if people are being serious in wanting him out or just giving him abuse for today.
  5. I didn't expect anything today, to be honest. Hopefully taking off Dyer and Milner will keep them fresh for Everton, and HOPEFULLY, Given and Nobby are both back. If so, we should get something there.
  6. Now that would be a very good result for us... Oh yes Primus both goals were headers from corners. 2nd one was actually a free kick. Got up well.
  7. Dont forget the whole 4 games in 9 days thing too. Might be worth resting Dyer and having him play against Everton and Man U instead. Tricky to balance it all.
  8. I'd be inclined to start Sibierski here, given Boltons physical approach and long-ball madness.
  9. Our goals are on the official site now, bedded into the Dyer interview. Loved Martins's celebration, dancing with Emre Enjoyed Parkers reaction too. Looked absolutely delighted with that
  10. Same as the Chelsea game. What a copout. Couldnt make the choice as to whether to play Butt, Emre or Parker. Bottled it. Newcastle United: Shay Given, Nolberto Solano, Emre, Kieron Dyer, Obafemi Martins, James Milner, Scott Parker, Nicky Butt, Peter Ramage, Steven Taylor, Paul Huntington Subs: Pavel Srnicek, Albert Luque, Giuseppe Rossi, Antoine Sibierski, David Edgar Tottenham Hotspur: Paul Robinson, Pascal Chimbonda, Young-Pyo Lee, Didier Zokora, Dimitar Berbatov, Hossam Ghaly, Steed Malbranque, Jermain Defoe, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Ledley King Subs: Radek Cerny, Ahmed Mido, Danny Murphy, Calum Davenport, Benoit Assou-Ekotto No Duff on the bench either, or no Babayaro at all.

    Pierre Boya

Nicked off www.nufc.com Our former European opponents Partizan Belgrade confirm that they have allowed their striker Pierre Boya (pictured in the stripes) to travel to Tyneside and train with the Newcastle squad. The Cameroon international striker turns 23 next month and has played his football in Serbia since 2004. Perhaps his most high-profile game for the Grobari (Gravevdiggers) came on the night that we were beating French side Sochaux 4-0 on their own patch, just over two years ago in the UEFA Cup. Boya finished with two goals to his name as Partizan drew 2-2 in Rome with Lazio, although the game was notable for the player being racially abused by home fans - something which saw the Italians fined and forced to play behind closed doors. Since then however Boya has failed to score consistently for Partizan and found himself out of the side, appearing in only two of their eight UEFA Cup ties this season and failing to net on either occasion. Despite the form of both Obafemi Martins and Antoine Sibierski, Glenn Roeder remains light in the striking department with Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi sidelined, Luque with his bags packed and Rossi returning to Old Trafford at the end of the year. Never heard of him.
  12. Why do we need the UEFA anyway? Intertoto champions remember lads.

    Inter-Toto

UEFA have finally recognised/confirmed it; Newcastle awarded Intertoto Cup Newcastle United FC will be awarded the UEFA Intertoto Cup outright after getting further in the UEFA Cup than any of their ten fellow winners of the summer competition. Group stage success In a new format this year, eleven teams rather than three came through the Intertoto event, entering the UEFA Cup in the second qualifying round, a stage earlier than before. Of those Newcastle, Grasshopper-Club, OB Odense and AJ Auxerre reached the group stage, and only the English club earned a place in last Friday's Round of 32 draw, where they were given a tie against SV Zulte Waregem. Presentation There will now be a presentation of the trophy, which has not previously been awarded outright since becoming a UEFA competition in 1995, before the second leg of that match on 22 February at St. James' Park. Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder, whose team defeated Lillestrøm SK 4-1 on aggregate to earn their UEFA Cup berth, said: "This is a little bit of a reward for the boys who had to come back on 26 June to play in the competition." The club's last European trophy was the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, and they now hope to become the first Intertoto qualifiers to lift the UEFA Cup, with the previous best run being FC Girondins de Bordeaux reaching the 1995/96 final. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/intertotocup/news/kind=1/newsid=491963.html?cid=rssfeed&att=competitions/intertotocup/index

    George Boyd

Mock all you like, but some very good players have come out of non-league football in the past. For his price tag, he'd be worth a punt in my eyes.

Reckon £300k would be accepted, mainly depends on how much others bid. There would be a lot of competition for him.

    Inter-Toto

BBC and Sky Sports are picking up on the news Newcastle to lift Intertoto Cup Newcastle will collect their first trophy in 37 years when they are awarded the 2006 Intertoto Cup. Glenn Roeder's side are the winners as they are the last surviving Intertoto entrants in the Uefa Cup. "We will be very happy to receive it," said Roeder. "It would be disrespectful to consider it a lesser tournament, as some managers do." Uefa has revealed there is likely to be a presentation before Newcastle's next Uefa Cup home tie on 22 February. The trophy is Newcastle's first since the Fairs Cup in 1969. The Magpies won a two-legged tie against Lillestrom in July to go through to the qualifying stages of the Uefa Cup. Roeder added: "This is a little bit of a reward for the boys who had to come back on 26 June to play in the competition." The Magpies face Belgian side Zulte-Waregem in the last 32 of the Uefa Cup in February. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/6185511.stm
  20. "nor is any due diligence being conducted on the Company" I'm sure that can be done without an offer made. We've now heard reports of this lot and Belgravia being "halfway through" due diligence, which has now been officialy denied. Seems a deal is a long way off to me.
  21. "NUFC PLC Statement THE Board of Newcastle notes the further press speculation in the Daily Mail today concerning a possible offer for Newcastle United. The Board wishes to clarify that it has not accepted any proposals for the Company from any party nor is any due diligence being conducted on the Company. Therefore there can be no certainty that an offer will be made, nor as to the terms on which any offer would be made. A further statement will be made as appropriate." Hah. Should learn not to trust the Mail after their whole Beckham to Toon omg! fiasco.

"There is not yet an official UEFA Intertoto Cup Winner 2006. The best performing team(s) of those 11 will be named UIC Winner 2006 and will receive the usual UEFA Intertoto Cup trophy. At the moment, there are only 4 teams left in the group stage of the UEFA Cup. These are, Odense BK from Denmark, France's AJ Auxerre, the English team Newcastle United FC and Grasshopper-Club Zürich from Switzerland." http://www.intertoto-cup.org/pastwinners.html Lads. We've done it. We've won a trophy! Is it wrong that this actually makes me quite happy? :$
