Couldn't agree more. I do agree that Ashley held us back from going places after finishing 5th, but that's only because he refused to sack Pardew ironically. There was the making of a really good team with a few quality additions including a new manager. We should have built on from 5th by sacking Pardew, installing a real good name manager, and shored up the defense. Colo needed a bruiser partner with pace, and we needed to sign Debuchy sooner. Assuming those January signings all could have come in far sooner and integrated into the team as well. Madness. Criticizing Ashley is always pretty much right - and he's ALWAYS going to praise Pardew, remember he's a short sighted footballer who will only look at surface level things simply - his best football was at Newcastle. His best football, sadly, was under Pardew, and he's only putting those 2 together. His final is that Pardew let him run the place (which could have been right?) but also never criticized him or challenged him. The refusing to play thing was uncalled for and he still got off free and then basically played out Of his skin. My anger is that he was exactly what we needed to sign to play deep for us. And we had more than enough money to buy him in addition to the rest we brought in.

We were his first choice by all accounts. He's just quick to not bite the hand that currently feeds him.

Literally never seen someone so unable to control or pass a football. I've made it a point to watch defenders in lesser leagues or clubs and they all look competent or able to kick, trap and pass. I think Williamson is as bad as what I see from Sean St Ledger of my beloved Orlando City

De Jong causes an issue IMO, i really think Mitrovic flanked by Perez and Aarons with Sissoko and Wijnaldum making runs behind Mitrovic could be class with someone holding it all together behind them. Ain't got a problem with that either. I just really couldn't give a single crap about defensive midfielders anymore. We'd solve this problem with a strong CB pairing IMO.

If only we just played with real fluidity you could really just keep a spine of DM, De Jong (being the central link) and Mitrovic. Having Perez, Wijnaldum, and Sissoko constantly working together to get to attacking.

(1) I think we'll eventually see Sissoko as a CM next to a partner (with license to get forward constantly) (2) I think we'll see Wijnaldum in one of the front 3 behind striker positions, assuming that will be wide right or left. (3) I also think Perez is being touted as a starter wide left b/c of his abilities. (4) Sounds like De Jong is the central linchpin, did I hear him right saying that he was "our best player" ? or did I hear that wrong?
