Yeah, weren't they supposed to pay a huge fine to the football league if they got relegated? Huge fine if they stayed up and transfer ban if they went down as far as I remember. Until they could show they were balancing the books.

One of those articles claims £40m on six new players. That's a massive £6.7m per player. The quality of players that money tends to buy will definitely move you from 15th to 8th Don't forget to take away money for the wages. And agents fees. If we're planning on spending £40m on half a dozen players it'll be more bargain basement rubbish. £6m only buys you a Rivière these days Graham Carr. Or Ayoze Perez X 4

He's a complete prick, but a token appointment to the board is hardly the same as being made director of Football.

I disagree, ultimately each club employs a manager and supposedly trusts their opinion and knowledge of football, so back that trust by letting him have the final say on the players he will be working with day in day out. If you don't trust the managers opinions on football to that extent why the fuck are you employing him then. You're employing him because you trust his opinion on coaching, team selection and tactics. He's there to coach the team, select the players and work out the best way to beat whatever team we're playing. That doesn't mean he has to be ultimately responsible for absolutely everything. The most important thing is that the manager/head coach should be the one to tell people which positions need to be filled, if he wants a central defender and a striker we shouldn't be signing a left back and a right winger. But it should be up to the recruitment people to go out and look for the central defender and striker, report back to the head coach, discuss things and then come to a agreement.
-
Really hope that's true.
-
McClaren started coaching with the England team in 2000.
-
I'd say removing the two incompetent mongs who were responsible for training your team to play like shit every week is a pretty big deal.
-
Still hope he can get to grips next season. Anyway depends on the market you buy in and how good your scouts are. Riviere is an exception rather than a rule.
-
He could have been watching every game since we first asked him to take over. If he needs to see more I'm sure he has a PC and internet connection.
-
What can I say, didn't read your post
-
Hard to tell who should have won really considering apparently Morocco were bribing people as well, they just got out bribed by South Africa
-
"Demba, fancy playing out wide for Crystal Palace?" ".............." *dial tone*

As long as he does the best with what he has to work with I for one won't aim any venom at him. It'll all go where it belongs, the fat bastard at the top. But if he's another Pardew he'll get his fair share.
-
Maybe, but I'm not going to wish for another season of wanting to smash my TV every weekend in the vain hope that it'll put pressure on Ashley to leave.
-
Definitely, though that's more to do with being taken in by Pardew's bull shit and smarm rather than his record, which is garbage. Still I'd be interested in hearing what QPR fans think of him.
-
Haven't seen much of Austin, but his record suggests he's a natural goal scorer. At every level he's played at he's scored a bucket load. No idea if we'll sign him though.

-
It has been claimed here that McClaren is a worse appointment than Pardew was.
-
He's won surprisingly little considering the time he's managed and number of sides he's coached.
-
They can have him on loan like, not interested in developing Chelsea's players for them.
-
No idea if he'll do well like. Did well to keep them up but so did Di Canio and Poyet.. Also where's Allardyce going to go now, Championship time for the big fat dinosaur
-
People take press stories far too seriously when we aren't involved
-
Really? How could anything inspire you less than a man with no major trophy wins, hated by every set of supporters he's worked with and sacked by a League One club? Even being sacked by a Championship club puts McClaren ahead of Pardew when we brought him in
-
Don't want Bamford on loan. Permanently yes, haven't seen much of him myself but he seems to be highly rated. But we shouldn't be borrowing players from other Premier League clubs.
